Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Automation Engineer to join our team during this exciting period of growth. Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing, the ideal candidate will be responsible for upgrading and integrating new automation systems, specifying and integrating new equipment, designing, implementing, and maintaining electrical and control systems and addressing high-level maintenance issues. This role is crucial for supporting our expansion and ensuring the smooth operation and continuous improvement of our manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Equipment Integration: Identify, evaluate, and integrate new equipment and technologies to support our growth and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Automation and Process Upgrades: Lead projects to upgrade existing automation and equipment to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Electrical and Control System Design Support: Design and implement PLC and HMI applications to improve the manufacturing process.
  • Programming: Program, service, repair, and maintain electrical and process control system
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot complex automation issues through various control systems using RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk Studio ME, FactoryTalk Studio SE, and other applications.
  • Machine/Process Debug & Maintenance Support: Provide advanced technical support for equipment debug and maintenance issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal equipment performance.
  • Vendor management: Work with and manage automation and other vendors.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with production, maintenance, and operational teams to ensure seamless integration of new technologies and processes.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of automation systems, equipment specifications and software.
  • Strategy Development: Collaborate with the leadership team to develop an automation, machine monitoring and shop floor information strategy for the future

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation Engineering, or a related field and a minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation Engineering, or related field and a minimum 10 years of experience.
  • Experience in automation engineering in a manufacturing or equipment integration or machine building environment.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and machine controls for production equipment.
  • Proficiency in the controls debug/problem resolution of complex automated systems in a production/manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with robotics programming.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with packaging equipment in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience in the food manufacturing industry.
  • Experience working with and managing automation or other technology vendors.
  • Experience with integration of machine monitoring and/or MES (manufacturing execution system).
  • Experience with basic data analytics.
  • Experience with defining future automation needs, creating specifications/RFQs and selecting vendors.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of plant engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of operational IT systems (ERP, MRP, networking).
