POSITION SUMMARYAccountability for the success of the department's technical and administrative responsibilities. The Automation group has responsibility for the oversight of the process measurement, process control, control data communication, and process data management. The leader will implement, and coordinate activities associated with staffing, training, purchasing, budgeting, compliance, reporting, and quality of service. The incumbent will also regularly communicate and collaborate with the Refinery's operational managers, leadership, vendors, and contractors. This position will recommend technological improvements and new work procedures that will impact efficiency and effectiveness.EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or applicable degree required.
- Course study towards an advanced degree is strongly encouraged.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 15+ years progressive experience as a Process Controls Engineer, Process Engineer and/or Operations Engineer
- 3+ years of experience supervising engineers and technical staff required with the demonstrated ability to successfully manage a self-directed, experienced, and highly qualified team of experts
- Demonstrated work experience implementing process control projects in the Refining or Petrochemicals industry
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills with process simulation software, such as PRO-II or HYSYS
- 5 years of experience with Honeywell TDC-3000, Experion, Rockwell(plant pax) control systems including FTE
- Sound working knowledge of the fundamentals of unit operations.
- Sound working knowledge of maintenance and engineering of analog and digital controls, instrumentation, Process Analyzer Technology, Advanced Process Control concepts, distributed and computer-controlled systems
- Working knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems
- Working knowledge of networking and interaction between DCS, SCADA, and IS systems
- Strong written/verbal communication, interpersonal, and administrative skills
- Fluent in English, oral and written required
- Demonstrated competencies of priority setting and organizational agility
- Demonstrated competencies in leadership, developing peer relationships and participating as a team member
- Ability to handle confidential materials and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to adjust to frequent change and adjust schedule as needed to meet departmental goals
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assign, lead, monitor, motivate and mentor the Automation Department. Involves, trusts and optimizes a diverse, high performing team and creates a vision that fosters a sense of common ownership with a self-directed , non-authoritative leadership style.
- Track, monitor and report department's operating budget
- Implement and/or maintain safe practices and processes for employees
- Participate in the selection of vendors and lead contractors as needed on special projects
- Troubleshoot complex problems, including engineers and technicians with the analyses as a training tool
- Research, propose and recommend best practices for Refinery automation
- Regularly communicate with supervisor work progress, roadblocks, concerns, and questions
- Exposure to work near potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals.

- Timely communication and to the appropriate staff of automation issues which could impact the day-to-day operations of the Refinery

- Establish, implement, and maintain a master plan for Systems and Plant Optimization
- Owner representation in projects - development of automation scope for capital projects, review and approval during project execution, training and start up assistance for those projects
- Leadership role in developing and implementing Plant Optimization initiatives such as Alarm Management and Advanced Process Control
- Regularly communicate with supervisor on work progress, concerns, and questions
