Responsibilities Schedule: Tuesday-Saturdays 3:30pm-12am 3.0 Responsibilities & Procedure: 3.1 The Automation Systems Technician position is to be the in-house resource for the operation, maintenance and repair of the automated packaging systems. 3.2 To perform any and all tasks necessary to maximize efficiency and uptime of the automated packaging systems including robots, leak detectors and vision systems. 3.3 Sets up equipment for robot automation packing. 3.4 Set up and maintain leak detectors and vision systems. 3.5 Performs PM's on robots, leak detectors and vision systems. 3.6 Sets up new robot application for automated packaging. 3.7 Trouble shoots in-process automation application issues. 3.8 Supports and adheres to all BERRY safety policies. 3.9 Follows and supports all BERRY GMP's. 3.10 Repairs automation equipment as necessary. 3.11 Trains production personnel in the operation of automation equipment. 3.12 Performs general maintenance on automation equipment (robots, leak detectors and vision systems). 3.13 Recommends case counts and packaging sizing to allow effectiveness of automated packaging system. 3.14 Modifies software and programs as necessary for automated systems. 3.15 Setup, trouble shoot and debug new automation applications. 3.16 Advise set-up personnel on automation setups. 3.17 Maintains in-house expertise on automation issues. 3.18 Other duties as assigned Qualifications 4.1 Skills 4.1.1 Must be able to remember department and company policies and procedures, and recall multiple operations. 4.1.2 Must be able to analyze and prioritize projects, and have the ability to respond to instructions, and follow through in an independent manner. 4.1.3 Must be able to organize and plan daily activities. 4.1.4 Must be able to make quick, precise and good judgmental decisions based on current information and past experiences. 4.1.5 Ability to gather information quickly, communicates to others, and reacts in a timely manner. 4.1.6 Able to respond in emergency situations with a cool head, and be able to direct to the appropriate person. 4.1.7 Must be able to maintain focus on multiple duties, prioritize, and adjust schedule as necessary. 4.1.8 Must maintain ownership of responsibilities in the department and support the quality system process. 4.2 Education and/or Equivalent Experience 4.2.1 Must have basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and working with decimals. 4.2.2 Five (5) years of Industrial Maintenance experience or equivalent on the job training. 4.2.3 Basic electronic training in a formal atmosphere or equivalent on the job training. 4.2.4 Three (3) years of PLC experience. 4.2.5 Must be able to speak, write, and read effectively. 4.2.6 Good comprehension skills at a normal business level. 4.2.7 Must possess good verbal and written communication skills 4.2.8 Must be computer literate. 4.3 Physical Requirements/Work Environment 4.3.1 Must be able to work twelve (12) hours per day with three 15 minute breaks and one 30 minute lunch. Must be able to work overtime on very short notice. 4.3.2 (obsolete, facility temperature information due to facility climate control system) 4.3.3 Must be able to work safely in the vicinity of open flames, hot plastic, oil and metal (at approximately 350-380 degrees). There is possible exposure to dust and odors from various substances such as oil, molten plastics, degreasers and cleaning solvents. 4.3.4 Noise level is usually 90dB and above and requires ear protection. 4.3.5 Must be able to work around sharp edges of machinery and moving machine components. 4.3.6 Must wear the following personal protective equipment: rubber soled/ steel toed shoes, ear plugs, safety glasses, gloves, hard hat and forearm sleeves. 4.3.7 Will be required to lift on an occasional basis anywhere from 10-50 lbs. Must be able to carry approximately 50 lbs. for a distance of 100 ft twice a day on the average. Must be able to push/pull a 1000 lb. robot cell on wheels from one end of the plant to the other. 4.3.8 Must be able to stand on average 10 hours a day. 4.3.9 Must be able to detect visual functioning problems with robots, conveyors and inspection aid equipment.
