Job Description:
Starting pay is $30-$35 per hour depending on experience.The plant is a 24 hour, 7 day per week operating facility. This position will work Monday- Friday 8 hour days on-call/off-shift/over-time work as needed.Description: The Automation Technician will support the manufacturing of starch polymers for the Brookhaven, MS facility by playing a key role in our process automation. The Automation Technician will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining process control systems, ensuring the smooth operation of our chemical manufacturing facilities. This role is critical in helping us maintain our high standards of quality and safety to meet or exceed plant KPIs and goals.Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Follow safety rules and keep the work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Provide Electrical, Instrumentation, and basic maintenance support to all plant operations.
  • Identify problems, identify corrective action, and perform necessary repairs on plant equipment.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with plant processing schedules to minimize down-time.
  • Design, program, and implement PLC control systems for chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and other team members to understand project requirements and develop control strategies.
  • Write and test PLC code, including ladder logic, to control equipment, machinery, and processes.
  • Perform regular maintenance and updates of PLC systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation, including system manuals, change documentation, and wiring diagrams.
  • An operational knowledge of automated industrial machinery including motors, solenoids, servos, pumps, drives, relays, 3 phase power, communication devices, and industrial/electronic controls.
  • Must be able to read and interpret both electrical and instrumentation drawings and PLC Ladder Logic.
  • Basic understanding of Programable Logic Controllers and Distributed Control Systems.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives and smart field instruments (i.e., pressure, flow, temperature, level, and analytical transmitters, valve positioners, valve actuators and PID controllers).
  • HMI development in Factory Talk Studio.
  • P&ID, cause and effect, and control narrative interpretation is required.
  • Notify Plant leadership of equipment failures and process disruptions.
  • Ability to work with a team to provide general maintenance assistance to maintenance technicians, welders, and fabricators as needed.
  • Perform other duties as defined by management.
  • Timely completion of all work assignments.
  • Perform regular scheduled maintenance and other required preventative maintenance to ensure proper equipment operation.
Qualifications:
  • Preferred 5 years job related experience in PLC Programming in an industrial setting.
  • Understanding of general manufacturing processes and safety protocols is a requirement.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Proven experience in PLC programming, specifically with Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley).
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field is a plus. Relevant experience will also be considered.
Working Conditions:Disagreeable working conditions involving continuous exposure to dust, noise, and odors to the extent of being objectionable. Occasional requirement to wear safety equipment (dust masks, chemical suits, rubber gloves, safety harness) during performance of job may add to discomfort level. Occasional requirement to work at elevated heights and/or from temporary platforms. Temperature variations of winter and summer are objectionable.Schedule:M-F, 8 hour shifts. Off-shift/Overtime help as needed.Physical Demand:Continuous physical effort normally required. Standing for long periods. Climbing ladders, working at heights, and working in safety harness are normal aspects of job. Handling of 50-to-55-pound equipment is normal, occasional need to lift 100 pounds.
