Essential Job Functions The Automotive Body Technician provides the ability and skills to use tools, machines, and equipment commonly used in the Automotive repair field, as well as, the operation of electric arc, M.I.G., and acetylene welding equipment. The incumbent is responsible for handling the inspections, in conjunction with the preparation of any necessary reports. Also, the Automotive Body Technician may be requested to work various shift times, as needed by the Authority. The Automotive Body Technician may be required to attend training sessions both on-site or off-site. The incumbent will perform all phases of body repair of automobiles, trucks, construction equipment and similar machinery commonly used by the Authority in the maintenance of the roadway and structures. In emergency situations, performs miscellaneous duties, such as snow and ice control, general traffic control, and is subject to call out for emergency maintenance service at all times.Shift Time Monday-Friday 7AM-3PM
- Performs automotive body repairs on Authority automobiles, trucks and equipment including heavy crash reconstruction.
- Competent in applying all refinishing products and processes used at the Authority.
- Competent in the use of tools and equipment commonly used in auto body repair field.
- Possesses through knowledge of welding and fabrication in the body repair field and general welding and fabrication.
- Performs inspections and estimates of materials for repairs.
- Capable of using and analyzing Parts & Service Manuals in use at the Authority.
- Performs other duties as assigned or directed by Supervisor.
- As directed, supervises mechanics assigned to assist in the body shop.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education (Required)Incumbent must be a High School Graduate or hold a GED Certificate. Experience (Required)Incumbent to be highly skilled in all areas of automotive body repair, including the inspection of automotive and related equipment, as well as, the participation in the documentation processes. The incumbent in this class should be skilled and have a thorough understanding of the functions of complex automotive components, diagnostics and refinishing technologies.The incumbent will be responsible for having the knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and equipment used in the automotive body repair field including heavy crash reconstruction, as well as knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions used in the body repair and mechanical trade. Incumbent to posses adequate knowledge of general mechanical repairs for all major automotive and truck mechanical and electrical systems.The incumbent must possess a minimum of eight (8) years experience as a front line Automotive Body Technician.Incumbent must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.A valid CDL class A permit is required at time of interview. ASE Automotive Body Technician Certification is preferred.Incumbent tools as required by the Authority.
