DescriptionThis is not a Civil Service Position. DWSD employees are subject to provisions of Court Orders entered in United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division, Case No. 77-71100 with regard to certain terms and conditions of employment. DWSD does not honor reversion rights for internal candidates.SUMMARY:The Automotive Fleet Technician makes service repairs and performs maintenance on one or more makes of automotive equipment including but not limited to fleet vehicles, dump trucks, backhoes, vactors, sweepers, flushers, bulldozers, and tractors used in daily operations at various facilities.Examples of DutiesESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Perform preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment such as changing oil, repairing or replacing tires, lubing chassis, changing air and fuels filters, checking fluids. Complete inspections of parts and engines for abnormalities. Road test vehicles, perform routine maintenance on various equipment such as pumps, compressors, generators, etc. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE). A valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License and the ability to drive a motor vehicle on all terrain. Follow security and safety policies and procedures in carrying out work duties.RELATED JOB FUNCTIONS:Regularly inspect the working conditions and maintain the cleanliness of equipment and surrounding areas. Handle inventory control by maintaining purchased items, open orders, back orders and repair orders. Complete scheduled preventative maintenance on tools and equipment. Perform related work duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESKNOWLEDGE OF:* All automotive repairs* Computerized Maintenance Management System* Tools, materials, methods and practices used to perform light repair on heavy machinery and equipmentSKILL TO:* Initiate and complete repairs on various vehicles and equipment* Use basic technology* Exercise proficiency on various job duties as well as all the equipment used on the job* Effectively query and generate work orders and to maintain and update various databases and automated records* Perform light repair on equipment and vehiclesABILITY TO:* Effectively utilize appropriate security and safety equipment and procedures* Maintain regular and reliable attendance* Understand and follow verbal and written instructions* Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing* Create, plan, schedule and close work orders* Communicate frequently with team members and other units across the Department about process, equipment or potential problems* Develop proficiency in unit specific operations and software* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others* Perform preventative maintenance* Deliver equipment to various job sites* Maintain appearance by washing exterior and cleaning interior of vehicles.REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (position requirements at entry)* High School Diploma or GED* Minimum one (1) year experience in performing preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipmentSupplemental InformationESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTSPhysical Requirements:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job.
