The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.EDUCATION ACCREDITATIONApplicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.CLASS DESCRIPTIONAn Automotive Maintenance Worker performs safety checks on vehicles and assists mechanics in performing installation, maintenance and repair work on cars and trucks. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work shift and weekend work and are subject to call-back. Work is performed in an automotive shop where dirty, greasy shop conditions and fumes are regularly encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion.SELECTION PROCESSAll candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application. Qualified candidates will not be listed in rank order.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONOn or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:EXPERIENCE: Have one year of experience in automotive maintenance or repair work.OREQUIVALENCY NOTES: Have completion of one year of the required coursework in an automotive mechanic curriculum in an accredited high school or vocational school may be substituted for six months of the experience requirement.LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSE ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.NOTE: YOU MUST UPLOAD A COPY OF YOUR VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE WITH APPLICATION AT TIME OF APPLYING.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES* Knowledge of the tools used in automotive maintenance work.* Ability to drive safely.* Ability to perform minor maintenance work on vehicles.* Ability to follow instructionEXAMINATION PROCESSApplicants must provide sufficient information on their application to show that they meet the minimum qualifications for this recruitment.
