Job Description:
Overview The Automotive Service Director leads a large team of service professionals to deliver exceptional value to our customers on a continuous basis. He or she plans, trains, leads, and monitors the performance of service advisers, service technicians, detailers, to promote customer satisfaction and revenue growth in line with targeted business and financial objectives. The Automotive Service Director must have strong managerial experience and leadership qualities to organize and motivate a team and to hold each team member accountable for outstanding performance on a daily basis. He or she must be willing to accept accountability for operational and financial performance for the service department. The ideal candidate has some post-secondary education (degree, coursework, certification, etc.) and at least 2 years of experience in automotive service and repair and/or with automotive parts/accessories that includes Management experience. Strong leadership and motivational skills with high customer service expectations, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and good computer skills are required. Certification by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is highly preferred.   • Oversees the management and daily operations of the Service department.
  • Motivates and develops staff through coaching, mentoring, and training.
  • Ensure that the service department meets all customer satisfaction (CSI) and financial goals.
  • Develop and monitor budgets for the service department and keep dealership management informed of variances.
  • Manages and mentors' staff, including recruiting/hiring/training of all employees, overseeing HR/payroll, managing issues of discipline/termination, ensuring ongoing training/education, etc.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and all company policies.
  • Guarantees customer satisfaction in all areas.
  • Manages all required paperwork and records and prepares documentation (forms, reports, etc.) when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Forecast goals and objectives for the department and ensure they are met.
  • Ensure proper repair techniques are being used.
  • Schedule training as necessary to properly repair and service vehicles.
  • Stay up to date on product changes and new products.
  • Ensure that all necessary shop equipment is in proper and safe working condition.
  • Understand and comply with federal, state and local regulations that affect service department operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA right-to-know, etc.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years' progressively responsible management experience in the automotive service department.
  • General Motors Experience a PLUS!!
  • Experience in supervising and managing staff.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, staffing, and scheduling.
  • ASE certification (or is willing to obtain certification).
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to maintain composure under stress.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills.
  • Strong organization skills, able to multi-task, and can manage time to meet frequently changing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional appearance and work ethic.
  • Safety and customer service oriented.
  • Strong computer and internet skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • ADP Dealer Service experience a PLUS!
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated with the confidence in your ability to be successful.
