Pay GradePG 10 $41,422 - $55,229 - $69,036 Salary will be commensurate with experience.Nature and ScopeAn incumbent in this class is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair program for a wide variety of light and heavy duty construction and maintenance equipment. Supervises subordinate technical and support staff. The work is performed with general supervision from an administrative superior. Assignments require evaluative thinking and are carried out in accordance with precedents, accepted automotive repair and maintenance standards and applicable regulations. The incumbent in this class facilitates the efficient operation of an automotive shop.Principal Accountabilities Supervises, instructs, and provides guidance to personnel engaged in the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of vehicles including automobiles, trucks, construction equipment and their related mechanical and hydraulic components. Prepares schedules of repair operations and assigns priorities. Plans and implements preventive maintenance programs for all assigned vehicles and equipment. Coordinates the repair and maintenance work scheduled with the operational requirements of the department. Inspects automotive equipment to determine the extent and type of repair work necessary. Makes decisions as to the feasibility of repairing equipment at the facility. Reviews completed jobs for adherence to acceptable standards and practices of quality and timeliness. Maintains and reviews history record cards for all vehicles and equipment and makes judgments as to whether the same should be repaired or replaced. Requisitions, stores, distributes and supervises the proper use of equipment, material, tool and replacement parts. Maintains written records and files concerning personnel and materials.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThe intent of the listed knowledge, skills and abilities is to give a general indication of the core requirements for all positions in the class series; therefore, the KSA's listed are not exhaustive or necessarily inclusive of the requirements of every position in the class. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Knowledge of the materials, methods, tools and standard practices of the automotive mechanics trade. Knowledge of the principles of the operation of the internal combustion engine (gasoline and diesel) and of the mechanical repair of automotive and construction equipment. Knowledge of administrative and supervisory practices and techniques. Knowledge of the records system used with personnel and in the automotive maintenance and repair operation. Skill in organizing, directing, and coordinating subordinate personnel and their assignments. Skill in diagnosing and advising on repair problems regarding automotive equipment. Ability to accurately assess estimates of time, materials and costs. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with associates and the public. Minimum QualificationsApplicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: 1. Three years' experience in diagnosing, repairing, rebuilding, and calibrating light and heavy-duty engines, power trains, stabilizing mechanisms and related equipment requiring multiple integrated calibrations. 2. Three years' experience in troubleshooting and repairing integrated mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and related systems on vehicles and equipment. 3. Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through course work, academic training, training provided through an employer, or performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others; OR supervising staff which may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others; OR supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional, technical, and clerical employees.4. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).Conditions of Employment Direct deposit of paychecks is required as a condition of employment.
