Job ResponsibilitiesAV System Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Responsible for the administration, deployment, support and maintenance of selected enterprise AV control systems.
- Assists with application maintenance, upgrades, and all other associated service overhead for selected enterprise AV equipment and systems.
- Efficiently manages and fulfills service requests pertaining to enterprise AV applications and systems. This involves receiving, prioritizing, and addressing requests in a timely manner to ensure user satisfaction and system functionality.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting to diagnose complicated system wide malfunctions possibly caused by failing hardware, corrupt program files, outdated firmware or other system conflicts then perform direct implementation of resolution measures as appropriate.
- Verify successful repair and maintenance of equipment.
- Gathers and analyses data related to the health and performance of enterprise A/V equipment, including error reporting, proactive maintenance warnings, and network security patch management.
- Review and improve support processes and protocols to better meet the needs of users.
- Work with CTL staff to identify issues that can be proactively addressed with process improvement, documentation, and/or training.
AV Software Development
- Assist in the design, programing, and implementation of basic audiovisual (AV) systems and user control interfaces using Extron and Crestron technologies to enhance operational efficiency and user experience.
- Maintain custom user control interfaces using Extron and Crestron software to create intuitive and user-friendly environments. This involves writing scripts, creating macros, and configuring touch panels to streamline AV system operations.
- Collaborate with AV engineers and designers to define system requirements and ensure seamless integration between software and hardware components.
- Maintain DSP files for system audio optimization.
AV Systems Design
- Assist in gathering specifications and reports for the AV system design.
- Assists in generating project estimates based on the proposed design.
- Basic understanding how different components fit together to meet broadcasting, streaming, and recording needs.
- Use tools like Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to create detailed drawings and diagrams.
- Participate in commissioning of AV systems.
- Continuously develop and expand expertise in emerging academic technologies and their applications for enhancing learning environments at RIT. Assess the potential of these technologies to improve educational outcomes and recommend suitable candidates for pilot evaluation in collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) staff.
Relationship Management
- Act as consultant with campus partners to utilize audio and visual technology in spaces to create a positive user experience and support learning activities. Create efficient workflows and effective collaboration among partners (client, FMS, ITS, vendors, etc.)
- Participates in the assessment and selection of enterprise AV technology, which involves crafting technical specifications and conducting system evaluations.
- Collaborate with classroom operations team on training documentation for student staff and materials to assist faculty on use of installed A/V equipment and provide guidance and training for CTL staff and supervision of student staff work.
- Has a basic understanding and follows information security best practices, university policies, and information security standards impacting this role including use of any tools, technologies, services, and processes required to protect the university's information assets.
- Works collaboratively to identify, communicate, and where appropriate, manage or remediate risks and information security vulnerabilities
Network and Technology Management
- Works directly with central networking team to ensure reliable performance of AV systems on RIT network, including managing devices on the RIT network and working on integrating AV and IT technologies.
- Gathers and analyzes network data to measure performance and stability of enterprise AV components. Provides reports and recommendations to campus IT partners and management.
- Assist with implementing and managing application security measures to ensure compliance with RIT's security standards for assigned technologies. Develop and deploy robust security protocols to protect applications from unauthorized access, data breaches, and other security threats. Ensure all security measures align with RIT's established security standards and policies, continuously monitoring for adherence and making necessary adjustments.
- Adheres to architectural and operational standards for selected third-party enterprise systems that are deployed on RIT's network.

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience - Information technology, computer science, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years experience in audio/visual technologies in systems design and maintenance
- 2+ years experience of Crestron and Extron audiovisual programming
- 2+ years experience planning and coordinating materials and projects

The team also coordinates with network engineers and security engineers within central IT to ensure audio/visual systems are appropriately configured on RIT's network. In addition, they provide guidance to the RIT community on AV best practices and AV system procurement.The role of the AV Systems Designer/Programmer II involves working with the AV team to configure, program, and maintain the AV equipment supported by CTL across campus. The person in this role will also assist with gathering requirements, creating preliminary AV system designs, selecting appropriate equipment, programming control systems, designing user interface, and providing ongoing support and troubleshooting. They understand AV system programming languages, are proficient in AV technologies, and are versed in AV industry standards. With their technical skills and creative problem-solving abilities, AV Systems Designer/Programmer II supports the delivery of immersive and reliable AV experiences tailored to the RIT experience.In addition, they will occasionally provide supervision, mentoring, and coaching for co-op and student employees. Other responsibilities also include evaluation of emerging A/V technologies, alignment of technologies with RIT priorities, ensuring system security, fulfilling customer requests, developing standards.
