Our district educates approximately 10,500 students (representing 50 languages) in preschool through eighth grades in 22 outstanding schools. Our family of schools includes three middle schools (Grades 6-8), fifteen elementary schools (TK/K-5), three schools with all grades (K-8), and one Early Education Center. We also have preschools co-located at our six elementary sites. We have various theme based schools: Montessori, Immersion (Spanish and Mandarin), and STEM. Job SummaryPART TIME - 2-3 HOURS PER WEEK AVID tutors have the ability to guide students toward academic and personal excellence that will reach far beyond their high school years. As an AVID tutor, you are an active participant in the learning, growth, and personal development of students. Most importantly, you have been selected for this position because of the faith of the AVID coordinator in your ability to make a positive contribution. AVID is a system that targets potential college students who need support. AVID prepares these students by teaching them college readiness skills. Students are enrolled in courses and given academic support through tutors. QUALIFICATIONS: • Willing to facilitate inquiry based learning. • A desire to make a difference in the lives of students. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Work with small groups of middle school students. • Determine from student notes and discussions, the concepts that need to be reviewed. • Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class and textbook notes, etc. • Become familiar with the materials in the AVID Curriculum Library. • Facilitate tutorial sessions about core content areas. • Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students to follow. • Communicate frequently and honestly with the AVID coordinator/teacher regarding student progress and areas of concern.
