The New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) Research Institute is a highly successful nonprofit whose mission is to accelerate cures through stem cell research.Over the past decade, we've built highly automated infrastructure to perform cell biology at an unprecedented scale, allowing us to create some of the largest imaging-based datasets in the world. Using cell models from hundreds to thousands of donors, we are aiming to understand disease progression, unlock novel cellular phenotypes, and work to identify the patients who can benefit most from both existing and new therapeutics.Reporting to the SVP, Discovery & Platform Development, we seek an operational scientific lead to continue building and operating cutting-edge workflows driving advancements in iPSC reprogramming, functional genomics, and high-throughput differentiations. You will bridge science and technology, integrating hands-on lab expertise with automation and software engineering to enhance our state-of-the-art platform. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to optimize resources, refine processes, and deliver innovative solutions, ensuring the seamless execution of active projects and future initiatives. What you'll do:
- Oversee the continued development and operations of highly automated laboratory workflows to advance programs across iPSC reprogramming, functional genomics, and high-throughput differentiations.
- Provide a strong presence in the lab, technical input (biological and hardware), and support for scientists working on the platform.
- Meet regularly with scientific teams working on the NYSCF Global Stem Cell Array® to understand project progress and future requirements and needs.
- Work closely with automation and software engineers to enhance and develop the tools required to support the teams working across the platform.
- Provide a bridge between operations and research teams, ensuring the availability of reagents and consumables are in line with active projects.
- You thrive in a highly collaborative environment, gathering and processing information from various teams to drive informed decision-making and build consensus around complex challenges.
What we're looking for:
- Graduate degree in biological sciences, bioengineering or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of experience working with stem cells, particularly induced pluripotent stem cells.
- At heart, you are a builder: you take satisfaction in developing new workflows and optimizing existing approaches to maximize experimental output.
- You have strong convictions and confidently make decisions, but you also know when to step back, listen attentively, and foster an environment where your team feels heard, enabling well-rounded and collaborative solutions.
- 5+ years of experience managing, training, and leading teams of scientists.
- 3+ years of experience with lab automation, having helped design or develop custom solutions to solve large-scale problems is a plus.
- You will have demonstrated success in developing workflows (biological or technical) that have translated from concept to finished product.
- You make decisions and find solutions through data-driven approaches.
