We work through a network of retail brokers who share our commitment to long-term partnerships built on a strong service proposition.Location: This position will be based out of our Boston, MA office. We strive for collaboration which is why we offer a work environment where our employees thrive and develop long lasting careers.Our business, your impact, our opportunity:What you'll be doing:* Prioritizing and evaluating new and renewal submissions with the team to identify those accounts that provide the greatest opportunity for profit consistent with the business plan and corporate profit objectives.* Growing & managing a team of local underwriters situated in the Boston market; coaching and developing a team across a variety of experience levels in both technical and market-facing skills.* Coordinating production underwriting activity regarding traveling/marketing and target production plans.* Pricing and analyzing coverage, structure, and exposures on individual risks.* Driving data analytics within the region to sharpen underwriting strategy & uncover opportunities both internally & externally to improve process.* Authorizing quotes/binders/invoices as appropriate within own authority level.* Driving region-specific product strategies that best align internal and external stakeholders to win.* Supporting our focus of building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture. Emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit's risk appetite and profitability goals.* Attending client/broker meetings, lunches, dinners, and other social outings as applicable. Spearheading brand buildout among new & existing trading partners through both formal & informal settings.* Engaging with, and influencing all levels of the organization, driving collaboration and trust, and ensuring effective implementation of strategic priorities; driving the future vision for the region by aligning imminent strategic needs with long term goals.* Utilizing broker and distribution resources to identify target opportunities and mobilizes team to pipeline and foster growth by strategically pursuing promising opportunities.* Assisting in the review and monitoring accumulation reports. Thoughtfully deploy limits offered and sold to ensure company stays within the pre-determined aggregate for limits.What you'll bring:* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.* Minimum of 8 years of P&C underwriting experience.* Excellent task management skills with the ability to balance execution on both long- & short-term goals.* Ability to set culture within a team organization and coach to individuals' strengths; strong appetite to develop the next generation of talent within their region.* Strong communicator across all levels of the organization & externally. Able to manage messaging clearly & concisely on both challenges & opportunities & communicate vision and purpose positively.* Underwriting experience across all lines of business, including: Property, Auto, General Liability, Package, Primary Excess/Umbrella, and Workers' Compensation.* Strong attention to detail & excellent technical aptitude; able to balance both quantitative and qualitative inputs to arrive at reasoned, thoughtful conclusions.* Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Your communication style is flexible to the situation. You communicate clearly and with a purpose.* Calm under pressure. Excellent organizational skills, integrity, and great follow-through on tasks. Comfortable challenging norms while working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.* Strong sense of accountability & leads by example.* Proven track record of building and maintaining strong business relationships with insureds, agents & brokers.* A strong customer service bias.
