Job Summary: The Awake Night Behavioral Technician (ANBT) is responsible for the overall therapeutic care and safety of residents during the third shift. The candidate should display exemplary role modeling on the job and when in contact with the children being served. The candidate is assigned to one Residential House to ensure an orderly transition of youth from the residential program to the Learning Center each morning. This position will involve effective use of crisis communication skills, behavior management strategy and potential physical restraints (using Physical Management Techniques, as a last resort) to protect the young person from maladaptive behavior endangering him or herself and/or others. This position will report into the Assistant Director for Support Staff The ANBT may be mandated due to staffing vacancies. This position is a full-time non-exempt position that is required to stay awake for the entire shift. Essential Responsibilities:
  • Monitors residents' behaviors and builds therapeutic relationship to implement and support programming components within Positive Behavioral Support Plan (PBSP).
  • Teaches youth alternative (replacement) behaviors. Assists youth in building internal assets through the use of proactive, positive reinforcement and concrete behavioral strategies.
  • Uses PMT techniques (as a last resort) to ensure a safe and therapeutic living environment within the house. Responsible for teaching day- to-day life skills and assisting with ADL's to encourage independency.
  • Submits all documents in a clear, concise, and timely manner through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Collects and records Antecedent, Behavior and Consequence (ABC) data. Thoroughly documents behavior data using appropriate logs, critical incident reports and other documentations. Submits all documents in a clear, concise, and timely manner through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Demonstrates ability to work with leadership and treatment team members and takes an active role in the treatment planning process.
  • Plans and implements leisure time recreational activities, coordinates planning with the house schedule in concert with the individual treatment needs of the residents.
  • Transports residents to off-grounds activities, meetings and medical appointments.
  • Assist residents with preparation of meals.
  • Attends all required agency training.
  • Abides by the agency's Code of Ethics. Displays exemplary role modeling by following agency recommendations, policies and procedures.
  • Performs all other duties, including mandated overtime as assigned by the Program Support Supervisor.
Education, Experience and Other Qualifications: AS degree in psychology, social work or a human services field, and one year of experience working with emotionally disturbed, behaviorally disordered youth and youth with PDDs are required. BA/BS degree preferred. Must be willing to learn and implement the components of a PBSP. Certification in Physical Management Techniques (PMT) and Trauma Informed Care are required; also required is online Relias training in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), mandated reporting, professional boundaries, CPR and First Aid. Must have the ability to apply the knowledge acquired during training while fulfilling job responsibilities with the youth. A valid driver's license and good driving record are required to ensure safety of the youth and coverage by the agency's insurance carrier. The ability to work effectively with youth and other employees from diverse educational, ethnic, economic and educational backgrounds is required.
