Backhoe Operator, Gas Distribution 09/25/2024 Locations: Springfield, Massachusetts STARTING RATE OF PAY: $34.70 per hour This is a union represented position so anyone going into this position would be required to become a member of the union. Job Summary:
- Performs work consistent with training provided and/or skills attained or held.
- Operates various motor vehicles and associated equipment including pay loader/backhoe, Boom Truck, Trenching Machine, Crew Trucks and Mueller machines.
- Assist in and/or perform the duties in related job series classifications; work as crew member when not operating equipment and perform other similar duties as assigned.
- May be assigned other work in accordance with Labor Agreement.
Qualifications:
- Pass DOT physical and maintain required certifications.
- Pass DOT drug screen if not currently in a covered position.
- Be in good physical condition.
- Have the ability to keep required records satisfactorily.
- Demonstrate the ability to competently operate all types of heavy equipment and possess and retain an unrestricted MA Vehicle Operators License, CDL Class A, and State of MA Hoisting License 2A and 1C.
- Must maintain all applicable Operator Qualifications
- Be willing to accept shift and emergency assignments and work overtime.
- Residency requirement: must live in Springfield service territory per Labor Agreement.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Prior heavy equipment experience required, gas distribution experience preferred.
- Must reside within 30 minutes of the Springfield Service Center location.
Schedules: Monday - Friday, or Tuesday - Saturday as scheduled with hour lunch. This schedule is subject to change for vacations, extended illness and/or in accordance with the Labor Agreement. Wage Progression: Eligible for automatic increase and progression in job related series for the position of Backhoe Operator, in accordance with the Labor Agreement. This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants shall be subject to a pre-assignment drug test.
