HYLAN has an immediate opening for a Backhoe Operator. HYLAN specializes in broadband, communications, and intelligent transport systems (ITS), distributed antenna systems (DAS), fiber optic network platforms and wireless solutions. Our expertise includes underground construction, specializing in all outside plant construction activities including new technologies such as micro trenching, microfiber blowing, directional drilling, auger and jack boring capabilities.

HYLAN invites you to consider a rewarding opportunity within our Sacramento CA office as a Backhoe Operator within the Construction Department working to accomplish company goals. As a Backhoe Operator, you will play a critical role in operating heavy equipment to excavate, dig, and move earth for construction, utility, and landscaping projects. Your expertise in safely and efficiently operating backhoes will contribute to the successful execution of our projects while ensuring the safety of our team and the environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate backhoes and other heavy machinery according to established guidelines and safety protocols.
  • Safely maneuver the backhoe to dig trenches, excavate earth, and move materials as required for various projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and crew members to ensure the accurate execution of excavation tasks.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on the backhoe to ensure proper functioning and promptly address any mechanical issues.
  • Safely load and unload materials, debris, and equipment onto trucks and other vehicles as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring that equipment and tools are properly stored after each shift.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and practices to prevent accidents and maintain a secure work environment.
  • Follow project plans, blueprints, and technical specifications to accurately perform excavation tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate work activities and ensure project progress.
  • Document work activities, including equipment logs, maintenance reports, and daily progress updates.
  • Practice environmentally responsible techniques to prevent soil erosion and minimize disruption to the surrounding area.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, equipment advancements, and best practices related to backhoe operation.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in heavy equipment operation is preferred.
  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
  • Proven experience as a backhoe operator is required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and project stakeholders.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality work standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to adhering to strict safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel to different job sites as required.

This position is full-time with benefits. Candidates must be able to complete and pass a background check including a drug screen, and DOT physical.
