Job Description
Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Backup Administrator who will be responsible for managing and maintaining the organization's data replication & backup systems (primarily Veeam), to ensure data integrity, availability, and security.
This role involves monitoring backup processes, troubleshooting issues, and implementing backup strategies to protect critical data in accordance with PCC IT Policy, Sarbanes Oxley requirements and good engineering practice.
Essential Functions
* Backup Management: Oversee and manage daily backup operations, ensuring successful completion of scheduled backups.
* Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor backup systems for errors or failures and generate regular reports on backup status and performance.
* Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve backup-related issues promptly to minimize data loss and downtime. Provide off hours support on a pre-planned basis and at short notice in emergency situations
* Data Recovery: Perform data recovery operations as needed, ensuring data is restored accurately and efficiently.
* System Maintenance: Maintain and update backup software and hardware, applying patches and upgrades as necessary.
* Policy Implementation: Develop and enforce backup policies and procedures to ensure data protection and compliance with industry standards.
* Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of backup configurations, procedures, and recovery processes.
* Collaboration: Work closely with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of backup systems with other IT infrastructure.
Qualifications:
* Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or related equivalent experience.
* Experience: Minimum of 5 years of backup experience in backup administration with 3 years of Veeam experience.
* Technical Skills: Proficiency with backup software (e.g., Veritas NetBackup, Veeam, CommVault), knowledge of storage systems, and familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux and Unix).
* Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
* Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Storage+, Veritas Certified Specialist, Veeam Certified Engineer, Veeam Certified Architect) are a plus.
Preferred Skills:
* Experience with cloud backup solutions.
* Significant Experience with Veeam
* Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and implementation.
* Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation.
