DESCRIPTION: Stage Band Director JOB SUMMARY: The Montgomery High School Stage Band is the 2nd jazz ensemble at Montgomery High School. This ensemble performs a variety of repertoire with a focus on big band instrumentation and improvisation. The stage band performs 3-4 times per year at school concert, community events, and local festivals. Rehearsals take place 1-2 times per week in the late afternoons/early evenings at times set by the stage band director. Specific responsibilities include:
- Listening to auditions and selecting students to participate in the ensemble
- Setting performance and rehearsal schedules between the months of December and June and communicating needed information to students and parents
- Selecting repertoire
- Planning for and teaching all rehearsals
- Planning for and traveling with the ensemble to all performances
REQUIREMENTS:
- NJ Certification (Music, K-12)
- Strong background in instrumental music and jazz pedagogy
- Experience teaching and performing with jazz ensembles
- Ability to collaboratively interact with students, parents, and colleagues
