Barista
Position Title: Barista
Reports to: Café Manager / Owner
Location: Josie's Coffee Shoppe
Employment Type: Part-time
Schedule: Weekdays/Weekends/Holidays
Responsibilities:
Prepare and Serve Coffee & Beverages:
- Brew and serve coffee, espresso-based drinks (lattes, cappuccinos, etc.), and other beverages (tea, smoothies, etc.).
- Operate coffee machines, grinders, and other equipment to prepare beverages to company standards.
- Ensure high-quality presentation of all drinks and provide consistency with each order.
Customer Service:
- Greet customers with a friendly and welcoming attitude.
- Take customer orders, provide recommendations, and ensure prompt, efficient service.
- Handle cash, credit, or mobile payments and provide accurate change when necessary.
- Address customer concerns or complaints in a professional and positive manner.
Maintain Cleanliness & Organization:
- Keep the barista station clean and organized, including countertops, equipment, and utensils.
- Regularly clean coffee machines, grinders, and other tools to maintain proper function.
- Ensure cleanliness in customer areas, including tables, chairs, and floors.
- Replenish stock and ensure inventory is maintained.
Teamwork & Communication:
- Work closely with other baristas, kitchen staff, and management to ensure smooth operations.
- Communicate clearly with team members to coordinate orders and ensure efficient service.
- Assist in training new staff members as needed.
Health and Safety Compliance:
- Follow proper food safety protocols, including handling food and beverages safely.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations related to the café environment.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Previous experience as a barista or in a customer-facing role is preferred, but not required.
- Ability to operate espresso machines, grinders, and brewing equipment is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, customer-oriented attitude.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and ability to ensure consistent beverage quality.
- Knowledge of POS system preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Capable of lifting up to [20-30] lbs (for restocking and maintaining inventory).
- Ability to work in a busy, environment.
Other:
- Flexibility to work weekends, possible evenings, and holidays as needed.
- A passion for coffee and providing excellent customer service is highly desirable.
