Job DescriptionSince 1883, The Bridgeport Port Jefferson (BPPJ) Ferry has proudly served the Bridgeport and Port Jefferson communities as the trusted maritime transportation provider. Our mission is to offer a safe, reliable, and enjoyable ferry experience for passengers transiting the Long Island Sound barrier.BPPJ is seeking highly qualified individuals to serve as Bartenders. Duties and responsibilities are outlined below: BartenderReports to:The Bartender is directly responsible and accountable to the Beverage Supervisor on duty; and ultimately accountable to the Captain of the vessel while underway.Supervises:NoneDescription of Duties:The Bartender operates the cash register, handles cash and mixes/serves drinks to patrons.Collect money for drinks served and balance cash receiptsCheck identification of customers to verify age requirements for purchase of alcoholTake beverage orders, serve wine, beer and other drinks.Mix ingredients to prepare cocktails and other drinks.Clean bar, work areas and tables.Other duties as assignedMinimum Requirements:HS diploma or equivalentValid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's CredentialMust pass a pre-employment drug test.Valid TWIC care or must have completed the enrollment process with TSAGood communication skillsPhysical Requirements:Ability to communicate effectively with guest.The physical evaluation guidelines for employment aboard BPPJ vessels are based on the United States Coast Guard NAVIC 04-08 Medical and Physical Evaluation Guidelines for Merchant Mariner Credentials.FLSA Status:Non-Exempt*This position description does not promise or imply that the functions listed are the only duties to be performed or that the position may not change or be eliminated.
