Barton County Upward Bound Hourly (Temp)Location: Great Bend, KS 67530Department: Barton County Upward BoundJob Status: Part-TimeRate of Pay: $7.99 - $8.00 HourlyPosition DescriptionThe BCUB hourly employee may be responsible for overseeing all activities related to the summer program including participant monitoring, safety, recreation, scheduling, and other programming responsibilities related to participants. Other duties may include driving college vehicles, providing tutoring sessions and lifeguarding. This position is 100% grant funded. Employment may be contingent upon continued grant funding.Position Responsibilities50% - Chaperone cultural and educational activities and trips during summer program including evening, weekend, and overnight trips.20% - Plan & provide tutoring assistance, recreational opportunities, and other support activities to meet the needs of participants.15% - Act as liaison between classroom instructors and project staff and between participants and project staff.10% - Consulting with the following BCC employees as needed; the project staff, housing staff, security guards, facilities staff, & nurse.5% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned.ExpectationsDemonstrate commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice, as well as personal and professional integrity.Ability to carry out job responsibilities with minimal direct supervision.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesEducation - High school diploma/GED required. Associates Degree preferred. GPA of at least 3.0 required.Other Skills - Must possess a valid driver's license and ability to pass a background check. A background similar to target population are preferred.Experience - 6 months experience with populations similar to the target population.Physical RequirementsThe work requires minor physical exertion such as short periods of standing, walking over rough uneven surfaces, some recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Job may require recurring lifting of lightweight objects with infrequent bending or stooping alternating with the lighter activities. This position will be specifically working during the summer residential program from June 2nd through June 27th. Employees must be able to assist teachers, assist UB staff during field trips, drive a 15-passenger van, and serve as positive role models. Duties also include supervising participants in a group living environment, facilitating conflict resolution, addressing disciplinary problems, and assisting UB staff during evening activities. The position involves working long hours including evenings and Sundays with culturally and socio-economically diverse high school students. Qualifications: Applicant must possess a valid driver's license, clean driving record and ability to pass a background check; completion of sophomore year of college preferred; high school diploma required; GPA of 3.0 required.
