We are looking for a knowledgeable and driven Battery Applications Engineer to design and optimize battery systems for a variety of applications, including energy storage, electric vehicles, and industrial power systems. This role involves system design, performance analysis, and technical support, ensuring reliable and efficient battery integration with existing and new technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Battery System Design: Develop and optimize battery pack designs, including cell selection, module layout, and integration with power electronics and thermal management systems.
- Circuit Design: Create analog and digital circuits for battery management systems (BMS), ensuring accurate monitoring, protection, and control of battery cells.
- Energy Storage Integration: Design solutions for integrating batteries with power conversion systems, chargers, and renewable energy sources.
- Testing & Validation: Conduct performance testing, life-cycle analysis, and failure mode testing on batteries and related systems to meet industry and application-specific standards.
- Prototyping: Build and test prototype battery systems and BMS to validate designs and refine product functionality.
- Thermal Management: Analyze and implement effective thermal management strategies for batteries to ensure safety, longevity, and performance.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure designs meet relevant standards (e.g., UL 1973, UN 38.3, IEC 62133, ISO 26262) and address safety concerns like overcharging, thermal runaway, and short circuits.
- Documentation: Prepare detailed design documentation, schematics, BOMs, and test reports.
- Customer Support: Collaborate with clients to provide technical solutions, address application-specific requirements, and ensure successful system integration.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in battery systems design, energy storage, or related fields.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with battery chemistry (e.g., lithium-ion, solid-state, lead-acid) and their applications.
- Experience with BMS design, including hardware and firmware development.
- Knowledge of power electronics, including DC/DC converters, inverters, and chargers.
- Familiarity with thermal analysis and management techniques.
- Hands-on experience with simulation tools like MATLAB, Simulink, or LTSpice.
Certifications (Preferred): ISO 26262 Functional Safety, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or similar credentials.
Soft Skills: Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
Work Environment:
- Combination of office, lab, and occasional fieldwork settings.
- May require travel to client sites or manufacturing facilities.
