Position Specific Description:
The Utility Scale Energy Storage team is seeking an innovative and dynamic Project Engineer with a passion for renewable energy. You will be heavily involved in battery augmentation projects from design to execution, working with cross-functional teams across the organization. Your responsibilities will include planning, designing, and executing multiple energy storage projects, providing engineering oversight, and consulting to deliver a best-in-class product.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed design engineering for major components of large-scale energy storage augmentation projects.
- Prepare technical scopes of work for incorporation into contract documents.
- Support projects from conception through execution, working closely with early-stage and construction project managers.
- Influence project teams in the engineering aspects of the technical work, including close collaboration with and oversight of external Engineers of Record.
- Maintain familiarity with progress and problems in assigned technical areas.
- Collaborate with suppliers to successfully integrate major equipment.
- Work with multi-disciplined teams for problem-solving, process improvement opportunities, and system integration and controls.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and emerging technology prospects.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience:
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) in substation or utility-scale energy storage design and/or project management, with expertise in one or more areas:
- Power electronics
- Battery storage system design
- Substation design
- Generation tie design
- Design and/or operation of large-scale power generation or processing plants
- Strong knowledge of energy storage technologies including various battery chemistries, power conversion units, and DC/DC converters.
- Familiarity with lithium-ion battery storage safety standards such as UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, and applicable IFC/IBC sections.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively conveying technical and non-technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program.
- 7+ years of proven engineering experience.
