Position Type: Student Support Services/Guidance CounselorDate Posted: 11/8/2024Location: Brown County Middle School (High-Needs School)Date Available: TBD Closing Date: TBDMiddle School Student Services Advisor (School Counselor or Social Worker) Job Posting Position: Brown County Schools is seeking a Student Services Advisor (SSA) to support the social- emotional wellness and career-connected learning needs of Brown County Middle School students in grades 6-8. Located in the heart of beautiful Nashville Indiana, the school is about a 30-minute drive from Columbus, Bloomington, Greenwood or Martinsville. Qualifications: Candidates should either meet the Indiana licensing requirements for School Counselor as defined by the IDOE under 515 IAC 8-1-4 or hold a master's degree in social work and license from the IPLA (IC 25-23.6-4-1). Individuals holding a Student Services License from the IDOE (515 IAC 8-1-48) are preferred. However Social Workers willing to pursue an IDOE license are strongly encouraged to apply. Description: As one of two Student Services Advisors in the building, you are an important part of the educational team that works to help students meet the district's Graduate Profile competencies. The school team at BCMS consists of administrators, teachers, special educators, and community-based mental health providers. As a critical link between the school, home, and community, SSA assists in bringing all systems together in the best interest of students. The SSA works directly with students to: ? Develop positive problem solving and decision-making skills through classroom, group, and individual work. ? Cope with stress due to situations at home, school, and in the community ? Improve interpersonal relationships. ? Increase academic success. ? Develop self-regulation skills, self-esteem, and self-discipline. Other responsibilities include: ? Utilizing available resources to meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of students. ? Developing and implementing policies for the safety of all students ? Understanding how cultural, societal, socio-economic status, physical and mental health, and familial factors impact students. ? Educating faculty and staff in areas such as anti-bullying and positive behavior supports ? Being part of the crisis and multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention teams ? Supporting career connected learning experiences that assist students in developing decision- making skills and identifying life goals ? Identifying student needs and making referrals to appropriate school personnel, social agencies, community agencies and alternative programs. ? Preparing students for the transition to high school and post high school activities/options. ? Providing in-service training on topics related to the Student Services Advisory program and supporting student achievement. ? Ensuring fulfillment of established program requirements aligned with Title I Part A. ? Using data, including grades, discipline referrals and attendance to identify students in need and provide support services.
