Knowledge, Skills & Experience This position is well suited for someone with pleasant personality. Have work record demonstrating positive attitude, reliability, initiative, tact and productivity. Ability to assess situations and offer positive feedback. Experience and desire to work with school age children. Knowledge of positive leadership techniques, childrens activities and games, developmental learning progressions, and appropriate discipline techniques. Need to Have: High school diploma or GED required. Maintain First Aid/CPR/AED and Mandated Reporter certifications or obtain certifications within 30 days of hire.Essential Functions of the Position Park District Cornerstones
- Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park Districts safety and risk management program.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
- Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
- Comply with park district policies and administrative procedures.
Responsibilities Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Recreation, the Assistant Superintendent of Recreation, and the Recreation Supervisor - School Day Programs and Camps and the Before and After School Coordinator, the Before the Bell Leader will shall complete his/her assigned duties to the best of his/her abilities, offering suggestions of better ways to accomplish jobs and be ever mindful of the best interests of the St. Charles Park District and of fellow employees. This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to:
- Possess and exhibit the desire to work with children and the ability to interact with children in a positive manner.
- Lead both small and large groups of children.
- Serve as a Park District representative, provide leadership and work effectively with the on-site instructors, School District staff, program participants, parents, co-workers and supervisors.
- Actively plan, organize, execute, and directly supervise the assigned Before the Bell site(s).
- Assist site staff with the development and preparation of age-appropriate curriculum activities.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Resolve problems and deal with individuals and situations in a respectful, positive, sensitive and mature manner.
- Work in typically unstructured settings and situations using a positive and enthusiastic attitude, imagination, and innovative techniques combined with solid leadership.
- Demonstrate knowledge of developmental learning progressions and the ability to assess childrens needs.
- Follow department protocols and Park District policies.
- Apply appropriate positive discipline techniques with children and provide training of the same to instructors.
- Ensure the safety of all participants and staff by following all Park District Safety Guidelines.
- Perform first aid and CPR and execute emergency procedures as necessary.
- Attend weekday trainings as required.
