Job Summary:
This is a Full-Time 40 Hour per week position with the Department of Human Services. This position does require some shifts to be on weekends. This position is eligible for differential pay. The Behavior Intervention Specialist provides leadership in emergency and crisis incidents or events. Determines appropriate responses and interventions in a safe manner and in accordance with treatment plan and department policies. Monitor clients and staff for safety and compliance. Provides training in approved intervention techniques and ensures documentation is completed in compliance with federal, state, and department policies.
Licenses and Certifications:
Will obtain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification to provide instruction to new and current SDDC employees.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A degree or background in psychology, sociology, counseling, or another related field. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
Knowledge of:
* Principles of Basic Human Behavior (adults and adolescents);
* CPR and First Aid;
* Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) techniques;
* protective health measures;
* client rights;
* developmental and emotional disabilities.
Skills:
* lead staff in emergency or crisis situations;

* good communication both verbal and written;
* make decisions in emergency and high-risk situations not covered by procedures or guidelines;

* interpret and execute behavior intervention strategies;

* evaluate agency restraint devices and quiet areas for safety;
* function decisively and with authority in crisis or emergency situations;

* deal effectively with people of diverse and ethnic backgrounds;
* provide group and/or individual de-escalation support;
* be a positive role model;
* provide Responder training to SDDC support staff;
* plan and organize work responsibilities;
* flexible with scheduling to include weekends and holidays;
* accurately recall information;
* maintain records and prepare reports;
* communication information clearly and effectively;
* understand adolescent and adult behavior and help them formulate acceptable responses to problem situations;
* diffuse explosive incidents between clients;
* maintain safety and security of the Developmental Center;
* review and complete required documents within designated timelines;
* interpret and follow established policies, procedures, operations memoranda, procedures, and guidelines;
* complete other duties as assigned.
