Description POSITION SUMMARYThe Behavior Specialist Assistant-Residential is responsible to evaluate behavioral issues, assist with the development and implementation of behavior plans, complete required documentation, furnish data for psychiatric consults, develop and implement in-service training, assist in educating treatment team members and participate in Agency activities.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the supervision of a Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA), role responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Evaluate behavioral issues for all individuals in one or more IRA. Assist in developing and implementing individual behavior plans and on-going services through consultation with staff, evaluation of data, and observation of behavior problems. Complete all required documentation according to program regulations. Furnish data for individuals' psychiatric consults and provide counseling services. Develop and implement in-service training on behavior management for staff. Assist in educating treatment team members about services or issues within the scope of behavior management and mental health. Participate in activities as part of the treatment team that may include meetings, appointments, trainings, and committees. Evaluate behavioral issues for all individuals in assigned IRAs. Provide relevant and assigned trainings, specific to the implementation behavioral programs, to staff within IRAs. Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and Agency regulations and operating standards. Maintain and regularly compile data and documentation to be reviewed by supervisor as required. Contribute to a positive work environment through collaborative teamwork and positive communication in alignment with Kelberman's culture, values and mission. Demonstrate excellent work attendance by being punctual and reliable for all scheduled shifts and meetings. Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards. Adhere to mandatory reporting requirements and HIPAA laws. Other duties as assigned.REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality. Exercise tact, discretion and judgment in working with a variety of people. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances are warranted.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE Four-year degree in psychology, or a related field such as behavior science, social work, child life, education, nursing, human development, or therapeutic recreation. Candidates who have completed all, but 15 credit hours of the BA degree requirements must show proof of credit completion and complete their graduation requirements for the BA degree within 18 months of being placed into the BSA position. 12 months paid or unpaid experience in a program or setting supporting persons with disability. Certification as Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), preferred. However, those who are not RBT certified will be required to complete certification modules, competency assessment, and pass the certification exam within 6 months of being hired. Basic Computer Skills (Windows, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Word, Excel) Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances are warranted. This position has regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with individuals receiving services and is required by law to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check under OPWDD (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities) or OMH (Office of Mental Health) Travel and transport is required. Must have a valid NYS Driver's License and require reliable transportation.An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job related tasks may involve possible exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue or spills or splashes from these substances. May have exposure to unpredictable individuals and situations when working at Kelberman sites. OSHA exposure category l. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and sit. Must be able remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, twist, reach. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
