Responsibilities will include individualized student instruction, small and whole group support, collecting and analyzing data, assisting in de-escalation interventions, and facilitating professional development. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Under the direction of Special Services Administrators and building administrators, provides instructional support and assistance focused on behavior, social, and adaptive skills to students individually or in small groups.
  • Supervise and/or direct activities and/or academics. Activities may include but are not limited to Check in/Check out, study skills, Social/Emotional Learning, or life skills.
  • Build and maintain a positive, caring relationship with all students.
  • Monitor student progress; implement reinforcement and de-escalation techniques to assure student growth.
  • Work cooperatively with special education and general education teachers and specialists in district programs serving all special education students, including severely behaviorally disabled students.
  • Document both individual and group confidential data on student behaviors.
  • Gather a consistent collection of data aligned to specific plans and identified behavior.
  • Analyze data and provide usable interpretations of said data.
  • Coordinate with general and special education staff in the development, implementation, and monitoring of a variety of behavior intervention strategies.
  • Provide expertise, and direction to other classified staff to ensure the implementation of specific behavior intervention strategies.
  • Provide professional development to other staff related to Special Education topics.
  • Perform non-violent crisis interventions.
  • Assist in ensuring that behavior plans are being implemented appropriately and consistently.
  • Participate in meetings to exchange information about students as directed.
  • Follow and implement plans, procedures, strategies, or tasks as directed by an administrator or certificated staff.
  • Demonstrate interest in working with students, including those with special needs.
  • Encourage and model expected behavior.
  • Participate in training courses in order to enhance skills.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and respect for diversity among all members of the school/department or district community
  • Report to assigned duty areas promptly and reliably
  • Assist in maintaining safety, behavior, decorum, and order in common areas including, but not limited to, cafeteria, playground, corridors, study halls, gymnasium, auditorium, locker rooms, parking lots, crosswalks, detention rooms, and school busses. Remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Provide first aid in case of illness and/or injury and report accidents to the building office.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the building principal.
  • Work cooperatively and respectfully with all members of the school community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Training
  • Previous education and experience as a Behavior Tech/RBT. For internal candidates, completion of the 40 hour RBT training or the Washington State Special Education Specialty Certification may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Certified or able to obtain RBT certification within the first 90 Days of employment.
  • MANDT or Right Response Trained or able to complete District Provided MANDT training within the first year.
  • Previous successful experience working with children and youth with disabilities
  • Training or experience working with diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural groups required
  • Current first aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain promptly
  • Washington State Special Education Specialty Certification preferred

  • Demonstrated skill in communicating effectively with all staff, students, and as a team member, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work with students in a warm and confident manner.
  • Ability to develop and maintain data systems in order for teams to make decisions on appropriate interventions.
  • Knowledge of student safety rules and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability in graphing behavior trends and writing behavior reports.
  • Ability to accept supervision from administrator(s), certificated teacher(s), and special education directors.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive rapport with students and staff.
  • Skill in making effective, quick decisions.
  • Ability to accurately assess emergency situations.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT AND SALARY:As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of the Mead Support and Service Professionals and Policies and Procedures of Mead School District. A typical school year consists of 180 days plus 10 holidays, September through June of each school year. The individual number of days may vary by position as defined within the CBA. The salary range for the position is: Min $20.81 - Max $ 24.35 Salary placement will be at step 1 on the scale for the position unless otherwise noted within the contract. CBAs and Salary Schedules can be reviewed from the Human Resources page of the Mead School District website at policies and Procedures can be accessed online at Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full work year shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance. A maximum of three (3) days of annual leave are provided for all employees based on the employee's scheduled employment hours per day to be used for an absence during work hours, or to be accumulated for the purpose of cash out.Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12-month period are eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
