Primary Functions as a Behavioral Aide: To create and maintain an environment that enables adolescents to make positive changes in attitude, values, and behavior through a day program treatment modality; to coordinate and administer the in-school suspension and re-entry programs. Responsibilities of a Behavioral Aide:
- Supervise students during in-house suspension and those who re-enter Day School program after suspension
- Work with the Head of School to coordinate consequences for students
- Monitor hallway activity
- Assist in problem solving/conflict resolutions with students
- Serve as contact person for consultation, educational, and disciplinary actions for students with teachers and counselors
- Provide assistance in classrooms when extra coverage is necessary
- Maintain a high standard of childcare during coverage, including documentation
- Provide a positive model at all times
- Build positive, caring relationships with the youth
- Advocate the rights of the youth
- Conduct documented individual treatment sessions
- Conduct family counseling sessions, both individual and group
- Work closely with referring agencies and parents, keeping them informed both verbally and in progress reports
- Model high professional standards in interactions with students, families, agency workers, and staff members
- Work towards annual goals for personal and professional development
- Assist in pre-placement interviews when needed
- Facilitate group recreational activities
- Work cooperatively with staff to improve the quality of the total program
- Work to promote an atmosphere of openness, honesty, and understanding among students, staff, and other persons associated with Elk Hill
- Demonstrate a high level of competence, motivation, and commitment as a staff member
- Develop and implement service plans for students
- Perform other duties as designated by the Head of School or his/her design.
- Ability to assume responsibility and function with minimal supervision
- Ability to facilitate a harmonious working relationship with staff
- Ability to evaluate student progress, maintain records, and make reports
- Knowledge and understanding of cultural diversity and the impact of various socioeconomic characteristics on our youth
Qualifications:
- High School diploma required with three years' experience working with ED/LD youth; Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
- Experience teaching Special Education preferred
- Crisis intervention training and experience
- Good physical health
- Ability to work effectively with other staff
- Ability to implement educational plans meeting the individualized needs of students
- Valid driver's license
- Sense of humor
