Position Title: Instructional Support Personnel - full-time (Intense Intervention

* Therapeutic Behavior Specialist)

Reports to: Principal

FLSA: Non-exempt

Summary of the position: Under general supervision, provides safe, one-on-one behavioral interventions with children and youth receiving behavioral support as part of the student's individualized plan.

Qualifications: Demonstrated aptitude and/or abilities for performing the tasks required. Such other qualifications of academic, professional, and personal excellence such as previous experience as a Registered Behavior Technician. 2 years of college, or successful completion of a paraprofessional exam.

Supervises: None

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides a safe, structured therapeutic environment.

Interacts with children in a professional, positive manner.

Collaborates with the Teacher of Record and General Education Teacher(s).

Supports an atmosphere of enthusiasm and commitment.

Supports time-structuring activities.

Supports immediate behavioral reinforcements.

Supports appropriate time-out strategies

Assists students to engage in, or remain engaged in, appropriate activities per their individualized behavior plan.

Helps to minimize student's impulsive behavior.

Helps to increase the student's social and community competencies by building or reinforcing those daily living skills that will assist the student in living successfully at home and in the community.

Assists in developing the student's ability to sustain self-directed appropriate behavior, internalize a sense of social responsibility, and/or enable participation proactively in community activities.

Maintains documentation according to defined standards.

Maintains a clean, organized, safe, and attractive therapy area (Classroom and surrounding environment)

Maintain the same ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of the licensed staff.

Participate in in-service training programs as assigned. This includes training provided by the speech, occupational, and physical therapist and training in nonviolent crisis intervention.

Performs other duties as assigned

Promote good public relations for the School Corporation and community.
