Benefit & Payroll SpecialistJob Summary:South Arkansas College is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Benefit and Payroll Specialist to join the HR team. Under the direction of the Human Resource Director, this position is responsible for performing activities related to human resources such as payroll, personnel records, benefits, and employee orientation. Hours may be adjusted during peak times. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy. Salary range of $32,000-$34,000 to commensurate with education and experience. Plus, excellent benefit package. Supervisory Responsibilities:N/ADuties and Responsibilities: Prepare and process payroll(s) within the established timeframes to ensure accuracy and timely payment. Review timecards and other payroll related data for accuracy, resolve payroll discrepancies, and plan workflows for the various payrolls. Monitor and maintain leave on a continual basis to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Assist in preparing payroll reports for state and federal agencies, assists departments with payroll related questions or problems, and compiles data concerning payroll production when requested. Reconcile retirement and other benefits in coordination with the Director. Prepare spreadsheets and databases to track employee-related information. Maintain current and former employee files in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations. Assist with orienting new employees by explaining policies and procedures, obtaining required employee information, and advising employees of benefits packages. Scan and index files through the imaging system. Assist with Human Resource events to include, but not limited to, new employee orientation, benefits, fair, and employee recognition. Provides technical assistance concerning payroll, insurance, and other benefits, as needed. Participate in shared governance committees and other various activities related to Human Resources. Answer departmental phone calls. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills and Abilities: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of computers and software application programs, including Microsoft office and HRIS systems. Knowledge of filing and recordkeeping procedures. Great prioritization skills and the ability to multitask. Ability to perform accurate data entry and manipulate data to generate reports and documents. Ability to compose, proofread and edit correspondence, reports, and other documents requiring extensive attention to detail. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in office administration and/or payroll. Familiarity with payroll systems; Jenzabar experience preferred. Preferred Education and Experience: Master's degree in business administration, or related field Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in office administration and/or payroll. Jenzabar and Higher Education experience a plus. Familiarity with state and federal payroll and tax rules and regulations. Extensive education or significant experience may be considered in lieu of specific qualifications. Physical Requirements:The position requires the ability to seat and look at computer screens for extended periods of time. The position will require extended periods of sitting.
