The Virginia Department of Social Services has an exciting opportunity to join our team as the Benefits Administrator!
The Benefit Administrator reports to the Benefits Manager and provides technical and operational support and consultative services in the administration of the Commonwealth's benefits programs for the employee of the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) and the Office of Children's Services (OCS). This position administers a broad range of benefits and transactions services for current employees, new hires, and separating employees. The Benefit Administrator responsibilities include but are not limited to interpreting and applying various benefit and leave policies, procedures, and regulations; providing guidance and assistance to employees and supervisors; processing various transactions; recordkeeping; and liaison with business partners, including the Payroll Services Bureau at the Virginia Department of Accounts, for gathering information and resolving problems, and will provide direct support to the Benefits Manager.

Minimum Qualifications
* Considerable knowledge of policies and practices related to the administration of employee benefits.
* Working knowledge of short- and long-term disability program guidelines.
* Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures related to health insurance, life insurance, disability, and retirement programs.
* Working knowledge of disability and workers' compensation case management.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively consult and communicate with all levels of staff and management to provide guidance regarding state and agency HR policies, procedures, and practices.
* Demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage, and track multiple assignments. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
* Considerable, progressively responsible experience in administering employee benefits programs.
* Experience processing benefit and employee transactions in a HRIS.
Additional Considerations
* Working knowledge of the Virginia Sickness and Disability Program guidelines.
* Experience with Cardinal.
* Working knowledge of the Virginia Retirement System program.
