The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.OverviewThe Benefits Analysts position assists the Benefits Team with near and long-term activity related to the research, analysis, design, operations, and project management of the US health and welfare and retirement benefits programs with a primary focus on daily operational oversight of all programs. This role has a significant amount of direct interaction with SMBC employees and assists in driving change and results that emphasize operational efficiency and controls.Role Summary* Function as a liaison between employees and benefits vendors, assisting in the coordination and administration of health and welfare and retirement benefits programs for SMBC and its affiliates.* Serve as a liaison between employees and benefits vendors, addressing inquiries, resolving issues related to eligibility, coverage, and claims, and supporting onboarding and offboarding processes.* Oversee the operational aspects of health and welfare programs, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures while supporting continuous improvements for efficiency.* Administers and communicates SMBC's benefits programs, policies, and practices effectively and professionally.* Assist with ongoing maintenance of the benefits technology platform.* Ensures the timely processing of applicable benefits related invoices and reconciliation of employee contributions towards benefits with payroll deduction reports.* Assists with the evaluation of current vendors and service providers and assists with RFPs.* Maintains a broad understanding of SMBC's business, business leaders and priorities.* Completes special projects and ad-hoc analysis/reporting, as requested (examples: cost analysis; open enrollment planning; audit requests; data reconciliation).* Ability to multitask in a high-volume work environment.Qualifications* Experience with retirement benefits programs, including defined benefit plans and post-retirement health plans.* Experience with Benefitfocus and Kronos platform preferred.* Skilled in problem-solving, project management and communications, both verbal and written.* Understanding of best practices of employee benefits programs.* Knowledge of US employment laws, ACA, ERISA, FMLA, COBRA.* Direct experience in health and welfare and leave administration preferred.* Awareness of all applicable regulatory policies that may directly or indirectly affect current and/or contemplated employee benefits policies, programs, and practices.* Maintain current on subject matter expertise relating to employee benefits programs.* Full proficiency of the Microsoft Office suite required; intermediate to advanced level Excel required.* Demonstrates the highest standards of ethics, integrity, honesty, diversity, and discretion.* Proficiency in accounting practices and reconciling financial recordsWork Experience* Minimum of 5 years in a Benefits Analyst or Administrator role. This is a technically oriented position that requires relevant direct experience in health and welfare and retirement benefits programs.* Knowledge of basic HR processes, core benefits principles/practices, and overall solid business acumen.Education* Preferred: BA / BS (or equivalent experience)SMBC's employees participate in a Hybrid workforce model that provides employees with an opportunity to work from home, as well as, from an SMBC office.
