POSITION SUMMARY
Describe overall job purpose
The Benefits Specialist II works with other members of the Benefits team to provide effective, timely and compliant administration of CVR Energy's employee benefit plans. Administers all aspects of the daily administration of the Company's health and welfare plans, including compliance notifications, Form 5500 filings, activities to ensure the Company's benefit plans are compliant with all related legislation and associated regulations, maintenance of electronic files and reporting, utilizing both the internal HRIS system and third-party recordkeeping systems. Reviews, verifies and processes for payment vendor invoices; prepares plan funding requests for each payroll.
Serves as a subject matter expert for benefits related issues, including employee inquiries and support of local HR representatives. Uses independent judgment and decision making to evaluate and make recommendations about benefit plan administration.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

- Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Business, Human Resources or related field.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant work experience.
- Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) and/or Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Extensive knowledge of health and welfare plan design and administration.
- Working knowledge of federal laws and regulations pertaining to the compliant operation of employee benefit plans, including the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- In partnership with benefit vendors and consultants, experience interpreting health and welfare plan provisions, in order to provide information and customer service to employees.
- Mathematical aptitude, strong analytical skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Well organized with finely tuned attention to detail.
- Uncompromising integrity and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment to produce results.
- Fluent in English, oral and written required.
- Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
Actions that define the elements of the job's overall purpose
- Administers employee benefits including but not limited to health and welfare plans, HSAs, leaves of absence; maintenance of employee benefit records.
- Partners with Corporate Tax Department to ensure 5500 filings for health and welfare plans are completed accurately and submitted timely.
- Drafts and prepares certain benefits compliance materials as required including but not limited to: 5500 filings, Summary Annual Reports, Summaries of Benefits and Coverage, and Summary Plan Descriptions.
- Receives and reconciles invoices from service providers; processes and submits timely funding requests.
- Handles benefits inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution for employees. Provides timely and effective delivery of benefit services to ensure that the employee and/or department's objectives are met.
- Assists in the administration of the annual open enrollment process including HRIS system changes and testing, open enrollment communications, training, and audit of open enrollment data.
- HIPAA representative and compliance reporting.
- Partnering with the outsourced leave administrator, ensures compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA).
- Partners with others on the team to ensure accurate and current employee benefit information is maintained on the Benefits page on MyCVR.
- Drafts written communications to employees regarding benefit plans and policies.
- Regularly communicates with supervisor regarding work progress, concerns and questions.
