Summary:
The Bereavement Specialist provides compassionate and evidenced-based clinical bereavement support services to grieving families and staff members and is responsible for the comprehensive assessment of bereavement needs, the planning and implementation of grief support services, the administration of grief education and the provision of resources.
Responsibilities:
* Implements bereavement program initiatives, interventions, procedures and services offered for patient families, team members and the community.
* Collaborates with multiple disciplines and departments to ensure bereaved families are provided services and resources designed to meet their specific needs.
* Provides assessment, bereavement support and information to bereaved parents and family members who have experienced the death of a child.
* Has deep understanding of subject matter in area(s) of expertise.
* Plans and facilitates support groups for family members and community.
* Performs tasks and administrative functions as outlined by the direct supervisor.
* Assists with planning and implementation of memorial programs.
* Acts as a resource for staff who work with patients at end of life.
* Serves as a bereavement representative and/or subject-matter expert on hospital-wide initiatives/committees.
* Evaluates and adapts bereavement programming in collaboration with bereavement program manager.
* Collaborates with leaders to develop projects; participates in initiatives to share and learn with a variety of audiences.

* Contribute to the development, implementation, and sustainability of comprehensive services to support staff of all disciplines experiencing bereavement-related distress.
* Work effectively with diverse groups across multiple departmental lines and multidisciplinary teams. Demonstrate strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and an understanding of clinical processes.
* Provides crisis intervention and decedent care support as needed.
* Participates in departmental committees and projects as assigned.
WORK EXPERIENCE
* At least 5 years of job category-specific experience with specialized Bereavement experience Required
EDUCATION
* Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience Required
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
* Texas State licensed in one of the following: Phycologist, LMSW, LPC, LMFT, or board certification as professional chaplain, music therapist, child life specialist 1 Year Required
