Your ResponsibilitiesAs a Behavioral Health Intervention Specialist (BHIS) counselors work with families to create supportive environments at home. They work with families to offer the tools, training, and support that address the behavioral health needs of children. Additionally, BHIS counselors engage youth in skill-building programs that target specific struggles and help to improve identified problem behaviors. BHIS counselors work to empower children and help them manage those behaviors effectively by working to build skills in the areas of communication, coping with difficult emotions, managing anger, conflict resolution, and decision making. BHIS counselors are trained for these tasks through a 20-hour certification and receive ongoing supervision by the program supervisor and a licensed mental health professional. Additional responsibilities include:Writes the childs service plan according to diagnosis, evidence-based practices in the treatment of children with mental health diagnosis or symptoms and collaboration with the clients family and other community support. The plan must be written in conjunction with an LPHA assessment and must be accepted by IME prior to implementationProvides high quality services to individuals, groups, and families eligible for services. An average of 75 hours of individual services must be completed each month. Any combination of individual and group services that meet this standard is accepted.Complete all visits as scheduled. Complete all documentation in an acceptable manner, according to Medicaid, State and Hillcrest Family Services guidelinesComplete all service plans and documentation in a timely manner.Ensure funding authorizations are updated prior to expiration.Coordinate the delivery of child welfare services with any/all other services provided by Hillcrest Family Services or an external provider.Attends a minimum of 24 hours of acceptable training within the first year of employment and a minimum of 15 hours of training yearly thereafter.Work with families to learn behavior management and coping strategies.
