POSITION OVERVIEWThe Varsity Ice Hockey Head Coach for the Winter season interscholastic athletic program will be responsible for planning and direct supervision of daily team activities. This includes in-season as well as out-of-season contact which must be within MIAA and BHS policies This position reports to Director of Athletics. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Pre-Season:
- Attend coaches meetings (school and BSC)
- Complete all necessary HR paperwork/training
- Assist in monitoring registration and clearance
- Assist in hiring process of sub-varsity and assistant coaches
- Check equipment inventory and make any requests to AD
- Check uniform inventory
- Work with Assist AD on practice/competition scheduling
- Request transportation through Athletic Dept
- Read Athletic Handbook and ask AD for any clarification of policies, etc.
- Plan meet the coaches night for families
- Provide first week schedule to Assistant AD
- Review website for any changes
In Season:
- Set up time with Equipment Manager to distribute uniforms/equipment
- Confirm eligibility of students
- Plan practice sessions accordingly, communicate schedule at least 2 weeks in advance
- Assist in management of sub-varsity and assistant coaches with AD
- Coordinate with Athletic Trainer for any athlete injuries and return to play
- Ride bus to and from away contests - possibly drive school van
- Communicate schedule and any announcements with families via weekly email update
- Assist with any scheduling changes and communication of them to players/families
- Keep accurate records of scores, report scores to AD and/or media
- Keep attendance daily
- Communicate any issues with AD
Post-Season:
- Set up time with Equipment Manager to collect uniforms in full - lead this process
- Have students complete Athletic Dept survey
- Let Administrative Assistant know if any student did not return any uniform or equipment
- Provide AD with full list of athletes who earned a letter and any postseason accolades
- Confirm final roster and wellness credit eligibility
- Nominate players for postseason accolades as needed
- Attend BSC end of season meeting
- Have end of season meeting with AD - complete closeout form
- Have end of season meetings with Sub-varsity and Assistant Coaches
- Have closeout meetings with each student
- Make recommendations to AD on scheduling for following year
- Make recommendations to AD on equipment needs for following year
QUALIFICATIONS-REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of MIAA Rules and Policies
- Concussion awareness training certification
- CPR/AED certification
- Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment
QUALIFICATIONS-PREFERRED:
- High School Coaching experience or equivalent
