Position posted until filled. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED). Candidate must be fully bilingual in Spanish and/or another language (besides English) in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Experience as an interpreter and document translator is preferred. JOB GOAL: To provide support to Spanish-speaking students and families with the enrollment process and other functions related to the services provided by the Office of Student Services. Position: Bilingual Specialist Contract: Miscellaneous - Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director of Student Services & EMIS - Building Principal of Designated Building - Executive Director of Testing, ESL and GiftedESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Must be able to act as a bilingual interpreter/translator in the target language for the staff members and limited English proficient student and family. Must be able to communicate clearly with appropriate grammar and syntax in the target language and in English in the domains of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- The candidate must be able to contact a family by phone or email as needed, regarding various concerns. The candidate must be able to translate/interpret all forms in the target language to ensure the information is accurately communicated between school and home.
- Demonstrates basic student registration tasks and maintains accurate records.
- Assist families during the registration process.
- Can administer screener assessments to measure student's English language and math proficiency.
- Must be flexible and dependable while maintaining the confidentiality of students and families.
- Act as a liaison for the District, community, staff, students, and parents with tact and diplomacy.
- Conduct yourself with proper interpreter protocol (adhering to what was said, not interjecting your thoughts, and speaking respectfully and directly to persons involved).
- Regularly communicates and collaborates with district administrators, ESL teachers, and other staff members in the district.
- Attends a wide variety of meetings, community events, hearings, and/or interviews for the purpose of serving as an interpreter of conversations.
- Participates in workshops, conferences, and/or meetings for the purpose of maintaining skills for professional growth and/or conveying information.
- Adheres to all HCSD policies as outlined in the employee handbook.
- Attend meetings and in-services as required.
- Promote good public relations.
- Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issues.
- Interact with the Superintendent and/or Board of Education and present information as requested.
- Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner.
- Stay abreast of Board guidelines and policies.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
