Duties of a Billing Clerkmay include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Performs billing and follow up on claims as assigned
  • Prepares and submits claims on a timely basis
  • Follows up with third party carriers on a timely basis
  • Reviews accounts for further billing and adjustment needs, and following up on phone calls, inquires and written correspondence on claims within the Business Office as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Selected candidate will work in the Westhampton Beach office.

Qualifications

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Hospital billing/follow-up experience
  • Computer literate, Ability to type 30 words per minute
  • Experience with calculator, copy machine and fax.
  • Verbal ability needed to communicate with patients and comprehend written instructions regarding various inpatient procedures and forms.
  • Clerical perception needed to avoid errors in completing insurance forms and other inpatient related documents.

Physical Demands: Good Vision. Good Hearing. Mobility and dexterity of both arms and hands (or mechanical substitutions) to operate computer keyboard, answer phones, open file drawers. Must be able to communicate orally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4 or more years of hospital billing experience
  • Associate's degree
  • Completion of billing certificate program preferred.

Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook ELI 's Employee Health Services*

  • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

*The Human Resources department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

As part of Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH) combines the best in academic and community medicine, improving access to advanced medical care for residents of the North Fork and Shelter Island. With 70 beds, SBELIH is Suffolk County's first hospital, serving the North Fork since 1905.
