- Operates and performs operation on bindery equipment to ensure a quality product.
- Setup machine and make simple adjustments to achieve best speed and quality possible.
- Setup and understand simple adjustments on a packaging system for efficiency.
- Perform proper machine start-up and shut down procedures (if applicable).
- Ensure that equipment has adequate supplies to complete full production.
- Keep the machine filled and running to ensure maximum production goals are achieved.
- Figure quantities, print labels and skid markers out for each code number on the job.
- Proofs original job copy to sample to confirm accuracy of job specifications before completion.
- Maintains records of time, tasks, and number of pieces completed per job.
- Assist the material handler with finished product by helping place product in boxes, skids if needed.
- Checks accuracy of paperwork pertaining to job, defects, counts, box labels, samples and quality of banding.
- Continually check for code accuracy when loading the machine and accuracy of packaging the coded product.
- Understands, completes and verifies all necessary paperwork for appropriate task/job or as deemed necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment and work area at all times.
- Communicate with the material handler how to package jobs and types of paper being run for scrap removal.
- Work and communicate with the material handler and help train them to become an operator.
- Communicate with Assistant Supervisor on issues with quality, lack of paper, etc.
- Communicates with operators on other shifts to ensure a smooth transition.
- Follows all safety regulations.
- Adhere to policies and guidelines pertaining to confidentiality, security, and conducts business in an ethical and professional manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
- Experience in bindery production preferred.
- Knowledge of procedures for performing bindery operations.
- Ability to read job tickets and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge of computer system.
- Ability to operate Bindery and/or other equipment related to bindery operations.
- Problem solving skills.
- Mechanically inclined.
- Must be able to read a ruler and capable of converting decimals and fractions.
- Pays attention to detail and is driven to success.
- Ability to multi-task and be positive in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and to promote a positive working environment.
Working Conditions
- Work involves frequent standing, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs).
- Must have good vision and good hand-eye coordination.
- Overtime as required.
- Production environment.
Experience
- Requires at least 1 year of related experience or combination of related experience and 3Z experience.
- Experience in bindery production preferred.
- Knowledge of procedures for performing bindery operations.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED
