Bioinformatics Analyst
(On-site/hybrid)
The scientific computing team at a biotechnology company is seeking to hire a bioinformatics analyst. In this role, you will conduct large-scale analyses to develop, improve, and troubleshoot the latest products and internal processes. You will work on cutting-edge products for genomics, diagnostics, and personalized medicine.
The ideal candidate would describe themselves as a Bioinformatic Data Scientist with a focus on business-relevant analysis. Candidates should have experience retrieving, analyzing, and presenting process and product data to internal stakeholders and should be comfortable owning and understanding the analytics for a subset of company processes.
Responsibilities
- Use industry-standard data-analysis tools to provide insights into production processes for internal stakeholders (SQL, Python, Jupyter, Pandas, Seaborn, etc.).
- Use state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools to investigate sequencing data for potential process improvements (e.g., Dorado, Guppy, Samtools, minimap, etc.).
- Develop APIs to provide data for ETL processes and ensure well-organized data structures.
- Create dashboards and reports to give leadership visibility into KPIs.
- Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing teams to solve problems and create new products with a data-first mindset.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree or master's degree with 3 years of experience in a related field such as computer science, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, genomics, or chemistry.
- Solid programming experience in SQL and Python.
- Extensive experience with Oxford Nanopore Technology (ONT).
- Comfortable operating in cloud-based technologies such as AWS.
- Experience retrieving, analyzing, and presenting process and product data to internal stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team.
- Attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Critical and strategic thinking skills, including making logical conclusions, anticipating obstacles, and open-minded approaches to problem-solving.
- Experience in bioinformatics and using command-line tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
