Group Leader in Biological Sciences Center for Therapeutic DiscoveryThe Dana-Farber Cancer Institute seeks a scientist with experience in cancer biology, cell biology and preclinical characterization of small molecules to lead the biological sciences group at the newly established Center for Therapeutic Discovery. This is a unique opportunity for a PhD-level biologist to be involved in high-impact drug discovery projects in the newly developed Center for Therapeutic Discovery at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.In this role, you will establish a group focused on biological characterization of therapeutic targets and associated pathways. The biology group will also play an important role in preclinical characterization of novel small molecules discovered in the Center for Therapeutic Discovery. Your group will work closely with chemistry, biochemistry, and pharmacology groups to best support the development of novel therapeutics. The role further entails responsibility for projects, management of resources and communication with multiple stakeholders. You will interface with the Center leadership and with faculty and staff at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.   • Lead biological sciences, target characterization and discovery, and aspects of preclinical development.
  • Design and execute critical experiments to answer key biological questions.
  • Responsible for hiring and managing members of the biological sciences team.
  • Responsible for managing external resources where applicable.
  • Play a key role in shaping the scientific strategy of the center, working closely with the directors and other members of the leadership team.
  • Drive a culture of urgency and scientific excellence with a focus on therapeutic impact.Minimum Requirements
    • Ph.D. in Cancer Biology, Cellular and Molecular Biology or related fields and 3+ years of experience in either pharma/biotech or an academic lab.
    • Expert in cancerization of cellular responses to pathway perturbation by small molecules or genetic inactivation.
    • Practical knowledge of multiple assays including RNAseq, ChIPseq, protein methods and ideally preclinical assessment of novel therapeutic approaches.
    • Strong management skills - effectively manages the performance of the team, and their development, to maximize team impact.
    • Drives change, challenges dogma, thrives in ambiguous situations.
    • Collaborative mindset - capable of working with all stakeholders and project teams to ensure portfolio progress.
