Nature of Work: This is a senior level Biologist position responsible for providing expert level fieldwork, data collection, and analysis for an assigned program within the Natural Resources Department. This position assists the Program Manager with developing and implementing programs and coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies, other tribes, and the Nisqually Natural Resources Department. This position is Grant funded through 9/30/2025 after which will require new funding.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise other staff and manages grants, contracts and budgets as assigned by supervisor
  • Identify, develop, and implement prioritized data collection and monitoring projects.
  • Responsible for maintenance and organized storage of field equipment.
  • Coordinate with program manager on purchase of program supplies.
  • Carry out duties in a safe manner.
  • Report and provide information to Nisqually Fish Commission as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of treaty rights, state and federal environmental laws and regulations and procedures.
  • Knowledge of sample design and data collection techniques.
  • Understanding of complex resource management planning and adaptive management processes.
  • Ability to evaluate and prioritize relative threats to Tribal trust resources and develop appropriate responses.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and relate to Tribal and community members.
  • Ability to collect and manage data.
  • Ability to represent the Tribe in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with other organizations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work in difficult conditions.
  • Competent in use of computers to communicate and process information.
  • Knowledge of equipment safety and skills.
  • Knowledge of salmonid biology and ecology, treaty rights, and state and federal environmental laws.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Salmon Biology or related Natural Resources field and three years of related work experience.
  • Must a have valid Washington State driver's license and be insurable under the Nisqually Indian Tribe's insurance policy.
