DescriptionThe PLV Biology Department is seeking student laboratory technicians. Students will provide technical assistance concerning experimental preparations and procedures for laboratory classes. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- The preparation of lab materials for undergraduate lab experiments, i.e. preparing solutions, micro-biologic media/subcultures, dissection specimens, electrophoresis apparatus, etc.
- Conduct inventories of chemicals, lab supplies, IT equipment, instruments, anatomy models, lab equipment, etc.
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate standard lab equipment and instrumentation
- Involved in regulatory compliant lab practices and record-keeping
- Actively involved in general laboratory maintenance which includes organizing lab classrooms, prep rooms, and stockrooms, washing glassware, and autoclaving/segregating micro-waste
- Lab safety training is required and provided before working in the labs.
Requirements
- Science major (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry) or Nursing major
- Previous lab experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Good organizational and multi-tasking skills
