Job Summary:

To perform independent biomedical electronics work troubleshooting, repairing, inspecting, calibrating, modifying, and testing medical equipment and instruments used in diagnosing and treating diseases. To work from schematic diagrams and blueprints. To write reports, maintain records, and coordinate repairs.

Education & Experience

Associate's degree in Biomedical Technology or Electronics Technology and two (2) years related experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Employees working in dialysis departments must be able to discern color differences for water testing. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and the fundamentals of electricity, electronics, and solid-state devices. Knowledge of schematics and blue prints. Knowledge of biomedical equipment and functions. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Ability to diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions. Ability to comply with safety, environmental, and infections control standards and practices. Ability to maintain files and records.

Responsibilities

* Maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, constructs, calibrates, and tests analog and/or digital biomedical electronic equipment, instruments and apparatus.

* Performs preventive maintenance and/or electrical safety inspections on equipment.

* Tests, diagnoses, adjusts, and calibrates to local, state, and national electrical and fire safety codes and manufacturer specifications.

* Advises healthcare professionals and administrators on compliance of equipment with fire and safety codes and takes measures to ensure that all equipment meets applicable codes.

* Installs patient care or clinical laboratory equipment and develops methods and procedures for proper operation of electronic equipment.

* Assists in development of inventory lists and orders, stocks, and stores electronic components such as transistor integrated circuits, resistors, and capacitors, as well as manufacturer specific parts for patient care and/or clinical laboratory equipment such as circuit boards and module assemblies.

* Ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and infection control practices and procedures.

* Evaluates medical equipment and prepares reports and documentation for unusual incident equipment malfunctions. Maintains records, database files for equipment inventory, and writes applicable reports.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Requires frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds, frequent climbing, occasional crawling, frequent crouching/stooping, frequent driving, frequent kneeling, constant pushing/pulling, constant reaching, constant sitting, constant standing, frequent twisting, and constant walking.
