MAIN FUNCTION:Performs a variety of technical duties providing for preventive maintenance (PM), repair, overhaul, modifications, evaluation and clinical support for a broad spectrum of patient and non-patient medical equipment. Provides guidance or technical support to other Biomedical Technicians and Vendors as required or assigned. Reports to the Director of Clinical Engineering.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:ADMINISTRATIVE:** 1.Maintains records of each job assignment through effective and timely use of Clinical Engineering work orders.2.Reads technical journals and related literature to stay current with advancements ad issues of concern relating to Clinical Engineering.** 3.Participates in organized education and training activities to upgrade knowledge and job performance.** 4.Initiates requests for replacement parts and materials.** 5.Assumes on-call responsibilities for emergency and off hour non-routine service according to the Clinical Engineering on-call schedule.** 6.Writes technical reports on projects, investigations or studies to effectively document and communicate relevant issues.** 7.Works closely with professional, engineering and medical personnel. Communicates, orally and in writing, with clinical, as well as with administrative and engineering professionals.** 8.Supports and encourages teamwork within Clinical Engineering.Coordinates work assignments with other BMET's.Interacts with all Clinical Engineering staff to facilitate medical equipment support activities and share/learn/communicate as required.Recognizes personal limitations and utilizes appropriate CE staff resources to overcome.** 9.Coordinates Technical Projects involving direct interactions with contracted vendors and Clinical Engineering staff.** 10.May be required to utilize personal vehicle to travel to offsite hospitals, medical offices and clinics. Travel reimbursements and documents must be accurate, complete and submitted in a timelymanner.TECHNICAL:**1.Performs a variety of technical duties, providing preventive maintenance and repairs on complex electromedical and clinical equipment; minor medical equipment; personal and non-patient equipment under the general supervision of the Clinical Engineering Director.** 2.Installs medical systems and instruments, initiates and completes installation documentation in a timely manner.** 3.Performs scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance, performance testing and electrical safety testing to assure operational integrity.Documents all actions taken and findings.** 4.Utilizes existing or designs new test procedures and equipment to measure performance of newly purchased equipment.Updates procedures as warranted.** 5.Evaluates demonstration units and provides technicalreports of the findings.** 6.Utilizes various measurement techniques to obtain optimum operational efficiency of electromedical equipment.** 7.Advises instrumentation users on applications to solve unique operational requirements or deficiencies.** 8.Presents inservice training in the techniques and methods of operating medical equipment and systems for Arnot Health personnel.9.Assists with medical device problem and incident investigations.Applies technical expertise to understand and document root causes of problems.Provides written reports and clinical interactions to prevent future occurrences.** 10. Performs any and all tasks within the Biomedical Technician's capabilities as may be required to help meet overall institute objectives.11.Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.12.Is familiar with and demonstrates Performance Improvement principles and participates in the process as appropriate.13.Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer's needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Arnot Health.14.It is understood that this job description lists typical duties for the classification and is not to be considered inclusive of all duties which may be assigned.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:BS in Engineering and two years related experience; or AAS in Biomedical, Electronic or Computer Technology and at least four years related experience. Equivalent education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis. Knowledge of pneumatics, mechanics, hydraulics, general chemistry and physiology. ICC Certification desirable.CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:No CPR requirement.WORK SCHEDULE:Primarily days - may occasionally be required to shift work schedule to facilitate repair and maintenance.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:May be required to lift heavy equipment.EXPOSURE CATEGORY:Category II.Tasks that involve no direct exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
