Job Description:

Under the direction of supervisor, the technologist is responsible for day-to-day test performance, blood product order processing, and other required duties to maintain laboratory operations. Rotate weekends, work on holidays, collaborates with other sections of the laboratory, as well as other departments within the institution, to provide the highest quality patient care.Follow the laboratory's procedures and performance of day-to-day test procedures, including, but not limited to: ABO Grouping & Rh Typing, Direct Antiglobulin Testing and Antibody Screen Testing and Antibody Identification and Fetal Bleed Screen Testing, Antigen Typing and Antibody Elution and Crossmatch Testing, Donor Unit Retyping and Transfusion Reaction Work-up for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of test examinations.Perform tests, which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, with a minimal supervision by the director or supervisor, in only those specialties, or subspecialties in which they are qualified by education, training and experience.Adhere to the laboratory's quality control and safety policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.Follow laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimensCapable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the supervisor or directorDocument all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.Ensures all environmental monitors are in place prior to testing and stores the supplies according to its requirements and regularly check the expiration dates and monitor quality of the testing material.Cleanliness and maintenance of the testing area and analyzer and discarding all the wastes and biohazards (or sharps if any) in the designated containers.Engages in QA PI programs, follow Laboratory and hospital safety procedures, report/document critical.Performs other duties assigned and or in an emergency necessary for the welfare of patients or the efficient operation of the hospital.Minimum QualificationsAt a minimum, Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology or associate degree in clinical laboratory science or medical technology program and Clinical Laboratory Technologist License issued by the New York State Education Department.Laboratory Preferences (if any): Education, training and experience commensurate with clinical laboratory medicine necessary for the design, validation and delivery of clinically relevant and useful laboratory services.
