Position Type: Teacher Level (Certified)/Instructional Specialist for Academic Literacy Date Posted: 10/10/2024Location: District LevelDate Available: ImmediatelyClosing Date: 10/24/24Job Title: Bloomfield Public Schools District Teaching and Learning Specialist Position Type: Full-time, Non-bargaining Reports To: Director of School Improvement Work Year: 12-Month Position Salary: $130,000 per year (Position funded by a grant) Position Overview: Bloomfield Public Schools Teaching and Learning Specialist plays a crucial role in shaping educational excellence PK-12. This position is responsible for curriculum development and assessment in alignment with Connecticut's graduation requirements and state standards. Key Responsibilities: 1. Curriculum Development:
  • Establish and lead the cycle of writing, development, implementation, and evaluation of district-wide curricula in all content areas, ensuring alignment with Connecticut's graduation requirements and the Connecticut Core Standard.
  • Lead the district's curriculum committee as the core team informing the written, taught and learned curriculum.
  • Collaborate with teachers, department heads, and curriculum committees to design and refine instructional materials and resources that meet state graduation mandates, including credit requirements and academic standards.
  • Ensure all curriculum and instructional practices comply with federal, state, and local regulations and standards, including Connecticut's educational laws and graduation requirements.
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits of curriculum materials and teaching practices to maintain high standards of educational quality and legislative compliance.
  • Monitor specific metrics or benchmarks for evaluating the effectiveness of curriculum implementation and student outcomes linked to the curriculum developed.
  • Promote and support culturally responsive teaching practices across the district, integrating strategies that respect and value diverse cultural backgrounds.
2. Professional Development:
  • Design and facilitate high-quality professional development programs for teachers and administrators, focusing on innovative instructional strategies, curriculum implementation, and assessment practices.
  • Develop and deliver workshops, training sessions, and coaching sessions that support continuous improvement and professional growth, ensuring alignment with state requirements for professional development.
  • Stay current with educational research, trends, and legislative changes to ensure PD offerings are relevant, impactful, and in line with Connecticut's educational standards.
  • Collect and report professional development effectiveness data to district leadership team.
3. Supervision of Instructional Coaches:
  • Supervise and support instructional coaches across the district, ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed to assist teachers effectively.
  • Monitor the performance of instructional coaches and provide feedback to enhance their effectiveness in supporting curriculum implementation and instructional practices.
  • Coordinate with instructional coaches to align their activities with district goals and curriculum initiatives.
  • Establish clear performance goals and expectations for instructional coaches, including regular check-ins and self-monitoring, to ensure alignment with district objectives.
4. Develop and Implement Assessment Strategies:
  • Work with the District Data Systems Coordinator to coordinate district-wide assessment strategies, including formative, summative, and benchmark assessments, to ensure alignment with curricular standards and support student achievement.
  • Analyze and report assessment data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement, and provide actionable insights and recommendations to teachers and administrators for data-driven decision-making.
5. Community Access and Engagement:
  • Develop and maintain a forward-facing digital platform that provides community access to curriculum resources, instructional materials, and educational updates.
  • Engage with the community through the platform to gather feedback, address concerns, and foster a collaborative relationship between schools and families.
  • Collaborate with district leaders, teachers, and community stakeholders to ensure alignment of curriculum and instructional practices with district goals and legislative requirements
Qualifications: Education and Experience:
  • 092 Preferred
  • Master's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification and a minimum of 8 years of teaching experience, preferably in diverse educational settings.
  • Proven experience in curriculum development and professional development facilitation.
  • Proven experience in leading culturally relevant instruction and equity.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong understanding of curriculum design, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
    • Demonstrated expertise in culturally responsive teaching and equity-focused educational practices.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
    • Proficiency with educational technology and digital tools for curriculum development and community engagement.
    • In-depth knowledge of Connecticut's graduation requirements, educational standards, and relevant federal and state legislation.
