Job Description:

Overview The BOH Assistant Store Manager supports the General Manager by ensuring an efficient and productive workflow throughout their assigned shift. In the absence of the GM, the BOH Assistant Store Manager will assume responsibility and serve as the person in charge. ASMs are expected to be aware of the needs of the business, manage the business flow, and delegate tasks to the overall team. ASMs are responsible for sharing feedback with the management team regarding shift outcomes and business needs. Position accountability includes coaching, staff training, staff performance and development, service standards, cash handling, scheduling, customer incidents, property maintenance, inventory management and orders, and other assigned administrative tasks. They are responsible for maintaining daily kitchen and bakery operations and working collaboratively with the Sycamore leadership team to identify opportunities for improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains shift flow by delegating tasks (i.e. cleaning, stocking, prepping) and ensuring the team is focused on customer service and current store objectives.
  • Communicates all team difficulties, triumphs, and feedback to the General Manager and suggests solutions.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of kitchen staff, including chefs, cooks, and dishwashers.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to kitchen team members.
  • Create staff schedules and manage labor costs efficiently.
  • Conduct performance reviews and address any staff issues or concerns.
  • Remains knowledgeable and educates staff and customers on current product offerings including food, drinks, and merchandise.
  • Follows General Manager directives, works collaboratively with the leadership team, and supports team members to anticipate needs, ensure smooth operations, and uphold service standards.
  • Adheres to company policies, including but not limited to, cash handling, product standards, facility maintenance and hospitality best practices.
  • Aids in hiring and recruitment endeavors, including leading interviews.
  • Maintains safe, cash drawers, cashier turn-ins and deposits per documented cash handling procedures.
  • Conducts inventory as assigned.
  • Strives for the highest standards in products, customer interaction, attitude and leadership.
  • Sets the tone for the team by practicing and upholding a positive and solution-oriented attitude.
  • Understands and exemplifies the training and quality standards as outlined by the Education team.
  • Personifies the hospitality standard expected by Sightglass.
  • Ensures adherence to the companys dress code, as well as all health and safety requirements.
  • Provides feedback in a constructive manner to employees and the leadership team.
  • In collaboration with BOH Shift Leads, verifies that all portion sizes, quality standards, department rules, policies and procedures are maintained by kitchen employees.
  • Ensures that all dishes are prepared to the highest standards of taste, presentation, and safety.
  • Oversee food preparation and cooking processes to maintain consistency, quality and safety.
  • Develop and update recipes, menus, and portion sizes in collaboration with GM and FOH Assistant Store Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of kitchen equipment and facilities.
  • Implement and enforce proper food handling and cleanliness procedures.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Full time employee (40 hours per week)
  • Proficiency in written and verbal Spanish is required
  • Proven experience as a Kitchen Manager, Head Chef, or similar role in a restaurant or food service environment.
  • Ability to work all days and dayparts to meet business needs.
  • Demonstrated enthusiastic desire to work with coffee, food and beverage.
  • 2-4 years of kitchen experience
  • Proficient in kitchen equipment and techniques.
  • Ability to function and be efficient within a team.
  • Capable of executing multiple tasks at once and remaining composed under stress.
  • Possess an exceptional level of customer service and professionalism.
  • Ability to retain product-specific knowledge of our current offerings, while exhibiting confidence and clarity when communicating product information.
  • Possession of a current ServSafe Food Handlers card and/or acquire a certificate.
  • Exercises good time management and approaches all tasks with a sense of urgency.
  • Maintains excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Is resourceful in challenging situations.
  • Demonstrates good leadership skills and is empathetic and supportive when engaging staff.
  • Able to communicate clearly, honestly, and promptly.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including weekends and shift coverage
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and stand for 8+ hours
  • Ability to maneuver effectively around the caf, office, and to/from other Sightglass locations for departmental meetings
