Duties Description STANDARD DUTIES:The Boiler Inspector within the Division of Safety and Health will make scheduled regulatory safety inspections of high and low pressure boilers and boiler installations to ensure their safe operating condition and to enforce compliance with statutory provisions of the Labor Law and industrial rules relating to boiler operations. Inspections will be conducted as the result of complaints or accidents. Inspections may require climbing through small openings, climbing on top of boilers and spending considerable time with the boiler.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, if they meet the below NY HELPS minimum qualifications.NY HELPS Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications:Four years of commercial, residential, or military experience in boiler making, boiler installation or inspection or in the operation and maintenance of high and/or low pressure boilers including all firing apparatus and control devices.Substitution: An associate degree* in engineering technology, marine engineering, mechanical engineering, or mechanical technology and either two years of commercial, residential, or military experience in boiler making, boiler installation or inspection or in the operation and maintenance of high and/or low pressure boilers including all firing apparatus and control devices.*Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. One year of permanent or contingent-permanent or 55 b/c service in a position allocated to a Salary Grade 12 or higher. 2. A passing score on the Boiler Inspector exam and 3. Must meet the minimum qualifications of a Boiler Inspector. Note: Candidates must not have failed the most recent examination for this title.
